Blast from the Past …
Here is a highlight video from the 1984 IWF World Cup Gala in Sarajevo.
It features a 17 year old Naim Suleymanoglu, Asen Zlatev, Blagoy Blagoev, Yurik Sarkisyan and more.
What’s different about this is, that athletes were ranked according to how close they lift (percentage wise) to the world record of their own weightclass.
Naim competes at 60kg here. Breaks the Snatch WR twice and also Clean & Jerks Triple+ Bodyweight (185.5kg).
Hat tip to Dylan from the wlforums.

Yurik Sarkisyan looks great in that vid, and I was amazed to see him squat 130×2, 140×3 and then 150kg in the latest Klokov’s vid.
I mean, he is 53 year old, wonder how many guys from that 1984 cup still train, and what numbers they are putting in
Gregor says
Yeah it was nice to see him again in Dmitry’s video again.
Not sure what Naim can do today… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iffV75mFD48

140 kg power snatch seems like no problem. 🙂
Wasn’t he hospitalized a few years ago? Hopefully he’s doing better now.

he is fine. it was just an allergic reaction

I almost cried, From a great city with Olympics tradition to almost ruble. I wish everyone lives there best.

Thanks for the hat tip! The credit should really go towards the uploader though for making such an awesome video available and in good quality too!
There’s another video on the uploader’s channel featuring Pisarenko and Kurlovich.

Nice to see Gunyashev there too, not many videos featuring him around.
All three Russian supers competed at below 125 kg bodyweight at this occasion according to the scoreboard in the background, impressive to have three such lean supers at the top of the international field at that time.
