This year’s CrossFit Games had a “Clean Ladder” event.
Workout:
- 1-rep Clean every 30 seconds with progressively heavier barbells
- Athletes will be ranked by the weight of their heaviest successful clean.
- Partial pounds will be awarded for each additional deadlift completed after they attempt and fail the clean.
Men’s Weights (pounds) – 245, 255, 265, 275, 285, 295, 305, 315, 325, 335, 345, 355, 365, 375, 385.
Women’s Weights (pounds) – 140, 150, 160, 170, 180, 190, 195, 200, 205, 210, 215, 220, 225, 230, 235.
Some pretty good lifts in there. Neal Maddox took first in that event with a 165.5kg Clean (365 lbs).
On the women’s side Lindsey Valenzuela managed to clean 104kg (230 lbs). However Elisabeth Akinwale got first becuase of the deadlift rule.
They didn’t even call it “squat clean”. Progress!
Caitlin Scott says
Elisabeth Akinwale actually won. She did more deadlifts than Lindsey.
GregorATG says
Thanks for the correction.
Chris Theo says
I thought both Valenzuela and Akinwale cleaned up to 235? Akinwale is a powerhouse.
Jonny says
Aro or something has really nice form on his cleans!

I’m honestly very impressed with the athletes at this year’s games. 365# clean in ladder format is no joke, think about 13 lifts in ~7 minutes, after the tri-style event and the sled/rope drag in the morning which would blast your hands/forearms and posterior chain. Pretty good technique on some of the guys.
HUGE improvement from the awful snatch ladder in 2009 or whenever it was.
Pablo Lara says
I agree, I would just ask one question: what’s with all that tape?
GregorATG says
Yeah the kinesio tape hype is getting out of hand.
Asher says
I like when he’s talking about technique at about 12:35 and the guy demonstrates the perfect formed spread you legs as wide as possible clean.
GregorATG says
Ah the Irony. Love it.

365clean ain’t bad at all they are getting much better. Rich froning who is the winner of the games did 345also which is good.
GregorATG says
Rich’s form on the lifts is really nice. Even when done for high reps. I remember this Open WOD:
