I can’t recall seeing anyone else snatch that way. What’s the benefit? More power in the second pull?

Don’t think there is an explicit benefit. Probably just what works for him.
It also looks like that was what made him miss the 179kg. Banged the bar too early-> bar comes out to the front-> has to pull it back -> he missed behind
