06.09.2015: Yangyang uploads Tian Tao snatching 170kg

05.09.2015: Yangyang uploaded Chen Lijun’s 154kg Snatch and Lu Haojies(77kg) 165kg Snatch.

Check out:

  • Wu Jingbiao(56kg), 138kg Snatch (matches world record)
  • Lu Xiaojun(77kg), 175kg Snatch, 300kg Squat attempt
  • Chen Lijun(62kg), 150kg 154kg Snatch (matches WR), 177kg Clean and Jerk
  • Liu Hao(94kg), 180kg Snatch
  • Long Qingquan(56kg), 130kg Snatch, 165kg Clean and Jerk

Thanks to ATG reader Victor the news coverage and Tian Tao’s weibo has been translated:

  1. Liao Hui is in the military; he had a mission earlier that day so he could not compete but arrived later to watch.
  2. They didn’t have to make weight.
  3. Liu Hao: 180 snatch
  4. Chen Lijun: 145 + 177, says he hopes to do 330 in Houston to give Kim Unguk some competition (though I don’t see how since he only did 322 at home without losing weight. However, it is worthy to note that although it only shows him getting 145 and 177, those may not be his final scores since the reporter said something about Chen Lijun surpassing the WR at this event. The way it was said, it is uncertain whether he did or simply carried a disposition to do so later.)
  5. Lu Xiaojun (175 snatch) and Long Qingquan (165 C&J) did not perform well as they went 2/6 (no bomb outs). Yujie said he will spend the last 2 months before Houston getting them to lift more consistently.
  6. Tian Tao sustained a lower back injury and did not train for 3 weeks. He said that the injury flared up again at the test of strength. At the rate that Tian Tao is progressing, basically, injury is the greatest threat to his gold in Rio. But I’m also amazed that with an injured back and 3 weeks without training (strictly speaking, it says no training for 3 weeks but I find it hard to believe he didn’t do some light stuff), he cleaned 220 with ease and came very close to jerking it.

/u/dirtyid from reddit also posted a translation: “Lu’s best backsquat is 305kg.”

He had that 300kg squat, but probably not worth grinding through and risking injury.

Chen Lijun did 154/182/336 (jesus christ) and Liu Hao totaled 408.

He matched both WR’s?? That’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! After Incheon, I really thought there was no way Chen Lijun could even try to challenge Kim Unguk’s record…

It also says that despite Chen Lijun winning the nationals, his score of merely 320kg meant that his spot in Houston was in jeopardy (since this did not give much hope of victory over Kim Unguk). This test event was crucial to his securing his spot. Also, his 154 is actually a PR for him. In this current training period, his snatch had skyrocketed. Previously, his PR was 148, a weight that he had made only once. Now, his snatches 150+ easily and causally.
