News
Alexander Venkov (the new Russian coach for the men) talked a bit about Russia’s weightlifting superstars.
On Dmitry Klokov:
Alexander Venkov (the new Russian coach for the men) said that should Dmitry Klokov win the 105kg in the Russian Championships he will get a spot for the world championships (October 16-23 in Warsaw, Poland).
Further, he mentioned that Klokov has been training for this at the training camp in Chekhov since February.
In Venkov’s words (please help with translation errors if you can):
Klokov – he is just an ordinary athlete, like everyone else. Yeah, he was the number one team and now must prove himself on the platform at the Kazan Russian championship.
His future in the national team depends on this. If he wins the championship of Russia, he would be a candidate for training for the World Cup (which will be held October 16-23 in Wroclaw).
On Dmitry Lapikov:
If the translation of this is correct then they planned for Lapikov to lift in the 105kg (?), but Injury prevents him from starting there.
On Khadzhimurat Akkaev:
I have no information on Akkaev. I have seen his request [I think he means him bein on the start list], but it’s all covered with darkness. I’ll wait for the day when he steps on the platform, then everything will be clear.
On Andrey Demanov: (thanks to Anna for sending this in)
Demanov moved up to the 105kg. Next we will the him at the World University Games (Summer Universiade 6 – 17 July). (via)

Klokov will never be an ordinary lifter

So the coach has no idea what is going on with one of his best lifters? Has Akkaev not been training with the team or something? That statement just seems really odd.
