Meanwhile in Houston at the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships +105kg session…
Aleksey Lovchev (Russia) snatched 211kg to take a 4kg lead in the Snatch with Lasha Talakhadze in 2nd position. Then after winning three gold medals with a 248kg Clean and Jerk he takes his last spare lift, increases the weight by 16kg and breaks a new 264kg Clean & Jerk World Record plus a new 475kg Total World Record.
The old records are 11 (263kg) and 15 (472kg) years old respectively, set by Hossein Rezazadeh (Iran). Full competition recordings.
Update 09.05.2016: I still had this iPhone slow on phone. Despite the quality I thought this is still too good as to not share.
Still remember how excited I was when I set it up as the 264kg was announced. I just wanted everything I had with me that had a sensor pointed at that lift.
Update 22.12.2015: My Side view of the 211kg Snatch
Update: My Sideview + Slow Motion
Also, in a brief interview Aleksey mentions that he ruptured his knee ligaments a month before the World Championships, his current plan is to rest and prepare for the Olympics. He also mentions in the months running up to the World Championships he didn’t Clean and Jerk more than 240kg (via).

Very exciting and unbelievable performance. Lasha looks like the real deal- left a lot on the platform.

definitely earned a spot among the best of ALL time. WOW.

I am so glad I watched it without knowing what is going to happen. I had already expected that Lovchev
might have an fairly easy win. His 211 snatch was good, but not as explosiv as sometimes. When he
started jerking with 242 I thought he will just play safely. After 248 I was glad he secured the win, but
that not much is going to happen. Boy was I wrong!
The 264 was super exciting and fortunately even without any discussion about arms being straight or not.
I always thought of Lovchev being better in the snatch. And I still expect he might attack the snatch record
some day, but I didn’t think he would make a 16 kg jump.
Amazing!
Aria68 says
Except he was doped and by now im sure you know that the record has returned to Iran.
Alexey says
Nothing’s returned to Iran yet. His case is still under investigation, and he has chances to be justified.

I was so thrilled to get a photo with Lovchev in the training hall the day before he competed. I like to think I was his inspiration, but I know better than that lol. Either way, I am still buzzing over the awesome experience I had this past weekend. He might be my new favorite, active lifter. What cool guy and what a tremendous accomplishment.
Shlomo says
I definitely thought Lovchev would break the snatch WR at some point (might’ve happened if Talakhadze didn’t put up such a good fight); never thought he would break the C&J though, much less in such a spectacular way. Can’t wait to see how he does in Rio, especially with the confidence of his new WRs and the more challenging competition he’ll face.

one of the few weight classes I had the time to watch live. My bf was sure that lovchev would fail the clean, while my bet was that he would clean it and make a decent attempt at jerking it but probably miss it. we were ready to bet on sexual favours and all, but then we ran out of time and he just did it, boom haha.
Excited to see what he does in Rio, where the young Georgian will be pushing him along with (hopefully) Salimi and others.
Also he should be used as a counter argument to people complaining about their bad levers – man’s got some awkward portions and is big, but can still lift with fantastic form.
Also was Reza around to watch? He must have been pretty annoyed.
Beto says
I don’t know about Reza be annoyed about this, but for sure the Iranian’s were not happy, the record of total in the superheavy was the proud of Iran.
Jakes says
So, does the record still count then?
