Aleksey Torokhtiy 225kg BTN Snatch Grip Push Press

January 26, 2017 By Gregor Winter

From the 2015 worlds training hall …

Dmitry Klokov wasn’t the only non competing lifter that put up big numbers in the training hall.

Aleksey Torokhtiy worked up to a 225kg Behind the Neck Snatch Grip Push Press!

Ok, here’s a stupid question: how does getting a platform in the practice hall of the Worlds work?
Can anyone with accreditation simply turn up and get an empty spot? Do past Olympic Gold Medalists get an automatic pass (which would seem fair, tbh) and a place to train as they fancy?
What if all platforms are taken, and a competitor turns up? Is it going to be ‘Sorry Aleksey, but Liao needs a platform and there’s people everywhere, so could you please finish this set and bugger off’?
    .
I’m overplaying it a bit, but I am genuinely curious to know what’s the background of these wonderful videos.

    Thanks,

Usually it’s not a big deal for someone like Aleksey or Dmitry to train.

There were over 60 platforms. Most of them unused during most of the day (unless it’s peak training time early in the week). Especially as the competition week progresses the training area gets emptier and emptier.

However, the Houston worlds had put in place needlessly strict rules. They kicked out Berestov out of an empty training hall, or didn’t let the Chinese men’s team (Lu & Co.) train when they showed up outside of their designated time slot. Again that was with plenty of empty platforms available. Some people were taking their jobs a little too serious there.

Everyone you talked to couldn’t understand why they insisted on these rules. Especially when there were people who purchased tickets to watch the training area…
