Meanwhile in Russia …
Silence in the training hall only means one thing – a big lift is about to happen.
This time it is Aleksey Lovchev with 205kg.
Update: He did 205kg at the 2014 European Championships!
Update: Read Alexey’s interview on ATG.
Song in the background is DJ Tiesto – Life on Ibiza.
Regarding the Russian team for worlds:
First they wanted to announce it on September 27th, which obviously did not happen.
The current line up you see on the 2013 Worlds Start List is just preliminary and will change.
Then Venkov (the head coach) said that currently 13 athletes are in training camp. Akkaev by the way is not one of them because of health problems. All other athletes are well and it will be a tough choice to cut them down to 10 (8 + 2 reserve athletes).
Now the final date for the announcement is set for October 4th.

Looks like Akkaev is in Turkey for vaccations, together with friends.

Akkaev is DONE! What a shame, but I guess when you don’t have it anymore you just don’t have it. He’s also looking mighty chubby in that video.

Well, I wouldn’t say he’s done. He’s just 28 years old and he might come back. But as I sad below, that’s gonna be hard for him. Not just because there are other strong lifters but by reason of his earlier attack against the head coach. He’s a star for us and the rest of the world but he’s “just” one of the lifters in Russia. I think it could be the same in China. Where you can get other 2-3 athletes almost on the same level instead of one who doesn’t want to cooperate , you will choose to replace him.
AFan says
This is why I say he’s done. He definitely has the strength for it, but I believe he doesn’t have the determination to fight for his place back in. I think his desire for weightlifting sadly isn’t strong enough to deal with what he’ll have to go through. Also, he’s beginning to become distracted with the wanting of starting a family etc. He’s got other priorities and the fight back in just doesn’t seem worth it to him anymore.
Strua says
Unless you know him personally, you cannot say Akkaev doesn’t have the determination to come back and be competitive.
AFan says
Hey no disrespect to Akkaev, I’m his biggest fan, but am I the only one who actually paid attention to his interview with Klokov, or seen his lack of DETERMINATION in his instagram postings? Honestly, I have my fingers crossed and hope that I’m wrong and that he really just needed a break for “health” reasons even though he can lift a huge 4 wheeler with two friends on top…..in flip flops. Like he said in his Klokov interview he believes in fate and when its over….its over.
grobpote says
I hate to tell this but he triggered something what he shouldn’t have done. There are so many wonderful and hopeful lifters in Russia and he is just one of them. I’m not sure there is a way back for him..
Beto says
oh my god, Akkaev should not do this kind of effort, he is returning from a back surgery
