Superb lifting. The armenian was strong as heck in C and j
Gregor says
Definitely, he pushed Alexey

For the 246, I was surprised he got that off with 1 second to go. He reminded me a little of Rezazadeh. I watched it live and boy, did both Ruben and Alexey made a wonderful show.

These weights and 6/6 at usually reserved Europeans, incredible. Given his height (~195cm?) I can see him gaining another 15-20kg and closing in on a 260 c&j within two to three years.
Also, we now have four guys with basically 460 totals. Could you imagine Albegov vs. Lovchev vs. Salimi vs. Moulaei in 2016? One can dream.
Juan says
Is he 1.95m? He does look huge compared to the bar. All of that stuff about lifting weights as a kid stunts your growth does not really apply here, eh? (what was the name of that other +105 lifter that was over 2 metres tall?)
Gregor says
Mmh over 2m you say?
Only Velichko Cholakov comes to mind, but he clocks in at 198cm. Maybe somebody knows a taller lifter?
Juan says
Yep, him! Dammit, I was thinking he was 1.98, but then I remembered he looked huge and started to wonder whether he was 2.02 instead. Anyways, thanks for the clarification. I had never seen such a tall man move so much!

For Lovchev I have no idea really, just a rough estimate based on a comparison to Albegov. He looks taller, but maybe that’s just his limb proportions. Someone with an Instagram account could ask him?
Cholakov on the other hand is not just 198cm, although that height was given in 2012. Earlier sites list him as 205cm / 6ft9in.
If you take the bar and discs as reference you can see him being taller than Salimi who is 198cm.

Another 2m+ lifter is British junior Darius Jokarzadeh.
Juan says
Great detailed answer, thanks a bunch! By the way, couldn’t help but notice that he is being trained by Zlatan Vanev (or at least pre London 2012)…amazing! And also thanksfor the Darius info. I knew he was way taller than any other lifters in the UK, but didn’t know he was over 2m tall

Wonderful to see Ruben back!He got back as a mature but still young and great lifter. He has a bright future ahead.
Lovchev was also excellent. He’s gonna be with the big guys very soon.
Everett says
To be captain obvious: more than Salimi totaled in London!
