for my money, nobody is doing any squatting as impressive as this right now. that’s a t shirt and knee wraps, and he’s doing it for a triple. come on, man!

This is the most impressive squatting video of all time. Nothing even comes close throughout history let alone currently.

One of the all time bests for sure but his 1000×2 was suited.

Eric Lilliebridge just did a 925 lbs squat to depth RAW+kneewraps @275, which is pretty awesome. Not the same weight, but he is about 40-50 lbs lighter, so it’s pretty impressive too.

Impressive, true. But out of a monolift (no walkout) and the squat was (to IPF standards) high. Not in the same league as Malanichev, for now at least.

^this, I’m sorry but a squat out of a mono and non-IPF rules on depth… definitely not near as impressive

Is Malanichev a IPF lifter or GPA? what you mean about IPF standars?, thought IPF has doping test, not that i care about PED’s, I’m just completely ignorante about PL

Malanichev started out as an IPF lifter, then moved on to other feds due to positive doping controls. IPF standards for squat depth are some of the strictest in the powerlifting world. Nothing like other feds with multi-ply equipment, monolifts and 100-meter knee wraps. 99.9999 % of the squats done at these feds would get red-lighted by any decent IPF judge.

Have none of you guys seen the recent IPF world record at 475 kg?

This was done in a squat suit. Still impressive though!

Actually, “still impressive” is an understatement. This 475 is a huge, huge squat in single-ply gear. Malan has done 480 in single-ply gear, and 490 but he was redlighted on depth. His depth would have been passed in most feds, but the Super Cup of Titans is judged under IPF standards.

Agreed that Malanichev is in a league of his own. That said, Lilliebridge is in his early 20’s and just switched to low bar squatting 2 months ago, so I think we will be seeing some impressive things over the next few years. The 925 looked like cake.

Fantastic squatting. No wondering about the depth. No suits. No monolift.

I met Andrey at a local meet 2 years ago. He weighed in at 135kg back then. He looks a bit slimmer here but in real life he looks huge. Not only was he a super nice guy but also looked extremely fit for his size. He said he regularly does 6km runs.

      November 19, 2013 at 23:04

True. Andrey used to box (where regular running is very typical, if not mandatory) and he has kept that habit ever since.
A heavy metal fan as well, and a humble person.

Only one other man (Sergey Karnaukhov) has squatted this much weight legitimately. Malan is doing it for a triple. Barring injury, we’ll see 455 kgs or more at the GPA meet (an all-time WR) and an all-time WR on the total. Malan has one heavy workout left. He is going to take 450 kgs for a single or a double next week.

    • Everett says

Also, Malan’s bench looks to be in good shape. He’s recently done 305 kgs in a “bench daddy,” basically knee wraps around the arms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jTeoPEMEZE
This is more than his best equipped bench (300 kgs). He has pressed 250 kgs in the gym, 240 in competition. His best raw deadlift is 400 kgs. So even if he just repeats his best competition lifts in the same comp (450/240/400), he’ll hit 1090 kgs, which will top Reinhoudt’s 1085 kg record that has stood for years and years. More likely, however, is something like 455-465 squat, 250 kg bench, and 400-410 deadlift… so we could be looking at well over 1100 kg total in just knee wraps.
