Meanwhile in Iran …
Here is a quick update from Behdad Salimi.
205kg Snatch +240kg Clean & Jerk. Solid 90%ers I would say (watch Behdad’s 260kg C&J here).
By the way, in the background you see Rasoul Taghian (yellow shirt), who now moved up to 85kg (via).
Update 01.09.2014: Behdad Snatched 215kg
Borislav says
I just read “Behdad Salimi… who moved now to 85” and I was like whaaaat?
grobpote says
That was incredible! It has never been such a wonderful time for superheavy’s! Not even in the ’80-s. And that is a BIG word.
Everett says
I’m not sure I agree–Salimi’s 455 kg total was the lowest gold metal total since 1992.
1996 – 457.5 (Chemerkin)
2000 – 472.5 (Reza)
2004 – 472.5 (Reza)
2008 – 461 (Reza)
2012 – 455 (Salimi)
We do hear rumors of Salimi putting up ridiculous totals in domestic
competitions, but I’ve never seen any video evidence to actually know if
this is true or not. Even if it is, however, we all know how that
works. Heck, Danielyan put up 477.5 total, the biggest of all time, in a
domestic competition, but never even medaled at the Olympics. Basically, I’d love to see Salimi or anyone else put up a huge total in a big competition, but I’m not sure it will happen.
grobpote says
In 2008 Beijing Steiner was the winner.

I meant the whole lineup being incredibly strong nowadays.I am a big fan of the ’80-s in lifting but look at them today:
Salimi,Bahadour,Albegov,Lovchev,Mogushkov and Ruben Alexanjan. There are six high class lifters at the moment here. Back in the days I never saw more then three. They were exceptional, yes. But if these six lifters come togerther they will provide a similar level of greatness as it happened in Sidney 2000.And it was the most spectacular superheavyweight competition ever.
mrtn says
90% would mean he is able to snatch 228. doesnt seem realistic, i would give him ~215kg.
but 267 clean&jerk is down-to-earth..
Leif Emil Eriksson says
He has snatched 217 in competition in Iran. Only the final part of the lift, where he stands up with the bar, is avaible on video. But from what you can see, it doesn’t look like a max effort. Salimi easily has 220 in him; perhaps we won’t see it in competition in a near future, but I’m convinced he has done it in training.
Aldr says
I heard they will not let him compete for Iran
Gregor says
That was before he re-joined the national team.
Aldr says
An Iranian friend said that even tho he is on the team they still wont let him compete. Hopefully this is wrong.
Thrand says
Probably closing in on 180 bw, if not already there. Needs a wider bar for sure. 🙂
Good motivation for Lovchev and Albegov.
troll says
It will be an all Iranian duel between salimi and bahador..the Russians are not in the picture, maybe they will be in for a bronze
Thrand says
Not so fast.
Last time I checked, Albegov won against Moulaei at the 2013 WC. Moulaei almost had that 261 C&J, but “ifs” and “almosts” do not give medals. White lights do.
Personally, I think that an in-shape Salimi is the winner. 2nd place is up for grabs, especially if Moulaei does not bring up his snatch to be on par with his C&J.
But do not write off the Russians. They are not training for the bronze medal.
Everett says
Yes, I think Thrand is right. Lovchev looks to be in great form, and has plenty of room on his frame. He just totaled far more than Salimi did in London.
Everett says
I only see a clean, no jerk? Perhaps my computer is not playing the video correctly.
Gregor says
Weird… Snatch is right in the beginning of the first embedded video.
Everett says
Yeah, I see the snatch, and another, and then a clean. And then the video cuts off. Problem could be on my end–no one else has mentioned it.
CasualLurker says
Same here…

The first video is embedded twice here as well. The C&J is here:
