Persian speakers, the weightlifting world needs your yelp.
If you can help translating / summarizing parts of it, that would be great.
I am sure Behdad has some interesting things to say.
First Summary thanks to PersianPT:
The most important part is that he is asked what was the reason for his bad performance and he replied that he was tired because he performed 3 consecutive heavy events in 45-50 days. That made him tired before worlds because his body did not recover in time.
So he says he was tired for the last competition – which was quite evident if you watched him huffing and puffing. He says he was disappointed with himself because he had achieved great performance figures during his training leading up to the events during the year.
He does not elaborate much but does mention for example that in movement of Clean and Jerk, in the Clean part (not the Jerk) He has reached 270kg – So he is cleaning 270kg well that is how I translate it as.
The most interesting part is when he mentions that Bagheri (his previous coach he had a problem with and left the federation) was a great coach and had he the experience he has now 2 years ago.
He would of tried to sort his differences out with him and accepts he made a mistake by opposing Bagheri. Also another interesting news is that Bagheri has registered for The Weightlifting Federation election as rezazadeh can not run for another 4 years.
First 25 minutes of the interview translated by “Farsi Translate”.
People send in questions and were hand picked by national TV Ch 3.
How much do you weigh?
My weight oscillates and depends on training and competition. My weight is highest during competition. I lose lots of weight when I get back to training. I rest 1-1.5 month after competition and I gain fat. My ideal weight is 162-168 kg, but during World Championships it was over 172, which is way too heavy. He weights 166 at the time of interview.
What is your diet?
Most important meal is breakfast (do you hear that kids?). He eats 3 times a day but in addition, he takes two portions of legal nutritional supplements such as protein and carbohydrate complement (at 8:00 min).
Why did you lose gold?
Athlete should be prepared for win and lose. I had 3 major competition in 45 days. He did 215 + 270 in training.
I did not not do well in World Championships even though I was in a good shape. My coaches were very good. I wanted a massage therapist, but our team did not have one. Kianoush Roustami helped massaging me! I complained about this. Two Russians had 12 lifts and more chances for win than my six lifts.
Why do not you smile/laugh much?
Behdad smiled and let it go!
Dad: It took him 3 years to finish last year of high school. He just received his associate degree (2 year degree from Jr. college) at age 25.
Later at 21 min: It took me 12 semester to get my 2-year associate degree with big smiles and professors did not give me any grade help. (usually 4-5 semesters for AS degree if full time).
How many more gold you think you can get? Only God knows. A museum from London wanted to buy my Olympics gold medal. I actually thought about it hard, but refused to do it.
What is your reason for higher education and what is your salary?
I am full time athlete. If I get higher university degree my salary will go up accordingly. My salary from government (not endorsement or gifts or rewards for medals) is 1.8 million Toma/month = $550 dollar/month. He is doing well after adding endorsements and rewards.
Thanks to Randolf for sending this in.

Hi, Most of the interview is nonsense, the interviewers ask behdad some questions that are moronic and disrespectful, well I would if those questions were asked of me. Bust the most important part is that he is asked what was the reason for his bad performance and he replied that he was tired because he performed 3 consecutive heavy events in 45-50 days, that made him tired before the games because his body did not recover in time, so he says he was tired for the last games – which was quite evident if you watched him huffing and puffing. Also another interesting news is that Bagheri has registered for The Weightlifting Federation election as rezazadeh can not run for another 4 years.
One another interesting news which was missed by your great website, is that Siamand Rahman has broken the paralympic record in incheon 2014 with a 292kg – he is asked in an interview why did he not break the 300kg record and he mentions that his coach advised him to break the record in more prestigious event and also so that he can register it in the Guinness book of records. The video is on youtube. Not the best translation but hope that helps somewhat, maybe someone can provide you with more details later 🙂

Thanks for the summary.

It’s kind of baffling why he has to lift heavy in the league between AG and WWC. Priorities?
But then again it’s also weird that he went for such heavy weights at the AG when it’s obvious that he has no real competition there.
