Meanwhile in France …
Here is a big squatting session with 33 year old Benjamin Hennquin (~92kg, France).
Thanks to Luis at Powercamp Eleiko Sports Center in Bordeaux for the footage (@powercamp33 on the instas).
Benjamin squats up to 280kg for a triple, then does back off sets with 240 and 260kg (see the full workout below the video).
This was in preparation for the Western European Powerlifting Championships which happened two weeks after this session. There he squatted 300kg, benched 170kg, and deadlifted 285kg in the 93kg category.
His next weightlifting competition will be 2017 worlds in Anaheim, where he will compete as a 94kg.
Squat:
- 70kg Normal and Narrow Stance
- 120kg x4
- 120kg x3
- 170kg x3
- 170kg x2
- 200kg x2
- 220kg x5
- 250kg x3
- 280kg x3
- 240kg x4

Just out of curiosity, I wonder why the safety bars are set so low as to be useless.
On a different note, is BH going to switch to PL for good? I feel he has underfilled his potential a bit (if being in group A at the Olympics could ever be called that); he never seemed able to recapture the magic of his 2011 silver at the worlds, and his confidence appeared seriously damaged after bombing out of London in 2012.

Intense squatting. I’m surprised he squats more than he deadlifts, he doesn’t have that barrel-like build that destroys deadlift leverage. The 285 kg deadlift looked easy though. Looking forward to see him lift in Anaheim, he’s one of my favourite lifters.

There are several French weightlifters squatting more than their deadlifts. I don’t think they deadlift at all. I think it is mostly some pulls but not as heavy as a deadlift can be. If I remember correctly BH didn’t deadlift more than my PB for his first PL competition, and I am by no means an elite athlete.
