My friends over at the IWF want to know who your favorite lifters of 2012 were. Too bad they only allow medalists from the London Olympics as candidates. I had some good ideas for this …
Well, even with this limited choice I think we can all agree (!) that this year’s award has to go Om Yun Chol from Best Korea!
His trolling performance (sneaking in the 56kg B session and winning gold with a triple bodyweight Clean & Jerk) was unmatched.
Forget turning water into wine. That’s child’s play. The Great Leader made this lift happen and showed the world that Best Korea is the greatest nation there ever was will be.
Update: Just realized that you can enter other names as well …
The Great Leader or his father Dear Leader come to mind as appropriate choices for 2nd & 3rd place.

Christine Girard, the first Canadian woman to win a medal should be on that list. Its not always about Gold!
Roberto Rosario says
She was excellent, but I’ve got a thing for world records. Videos of her snatch sessions are ridiculous.
dipym666 says
Absolutely and considering she comes from a nation where they are tested regularly she deserves special mention

ILya ilin.. For complete destruction of what was already a tough field
dan says
agreed. ilin set 2? world records in the olympics, and he remains undefeated in any international competition he’s participated in. 2 olympic golds, 3 world championships. it still blows my mind that countries that have a population the size of new york city can produce such talented weightlifters

I was so torn because for me Ilyin and Om are tied for 1st. In the end though, my vote swung for Ilya as he was just pure awesomeness all the time. Om was 2nd in my voting.
GregorATG says
🙂 I knew everyone was going for Ilya (rightly so) so I had to make this post to push Om.
Your 2 weeks of labor camp are already booked by the way. Angering the Great Leader comes at a cost.
dipym666 says
Om has to figure in the top 3. that was an outstanding performance considering his lackluster performance at the 2011 worlds
Roberto Rosario says
Sorry but I’m giving this one to Chinshanlo. She’s amazing and I have a massive crush on her.
Dustin Oranchuk says
exactly the same way i voted
Dustin Oranchuk says
honestlywoundnt be shocked if Salimi won or placed really high. People seem to love the supers
Herpderp says
Ilya of course. The guy would have won 105…
jonathan kariv says
Ilya had a 476 sinclair. Um was at 455 (unless I messed up the calculation). I can’t see a reason not to vote for the guy with the top sinclair (which I think is ilya but I should really work it out before voting).
jonathan kariv says
Going through all of them. Ilya had the highest sinclair at the olympics (by 0.04 of lu xiaojun) and zhou lulu had the highest female sinclair. Anyone feel like double checking me on that?
sporting says
1. Ilya 2. Om 3. Xiaojun… 999. Dolega
Griffo says
Ilya Ilyin all the way
yolo says
I had to vote for illya he was the best lifter no doubt. Breaking several world records with absolute ease and just blowing everyone out of the water was something else. Om was a very close 2nd though what he did especially coming out of korea was amazing.
