When it comes to lifting odd objects a stability ball filled with water reigns supreme. Ross Enamait has a video of it. He says that he filled that things with over 100 pounds of water. First I was skeptical about the durability, but as as you can see Ross man handles that thing pretty good. Great […]
Voodoo Bands Arrived
Look what came in the mail today. I bit the bullet and bought a pair of Voodoo Floss Compression Bands. My way of saying thank you to Kelly Starrett and supporting the Mobility Wod project. If someone is looking for me today, I’ll be in the pain cave. See the bands in action in the Compression Band Category.
Better Homemade Weightlifting Straps
Ben Claridad shows you how he makes lifting straps. Material: rock climbing webbing, ~1.5 ft / strap ($.36 / ft.) These will never rip apart. They are good for at least 18kN of force. Athletic tape the ends and you’re good to go. I would rather work security for a Limp Bizkit reunion tour (all 48 […]
Handstand Blocks
Yuri from the gymnastic bodies forums shows how to implement handstand blocks into your handstand training. I have not played around with blocks, but stacking & traversing seem like great exercises to improve body coordination and overall body awareness. He also shared his warm-up with lots of good variations. I really like that weighted side stretch in […]
30kg Weight Vest
Got a new toy. 30kg weight vest. I already own two 10kg vests that were pretty cheap and poorly fitting. So this felt like a necessary upgrade. Dips feel really good with it. I used to do them with a diy dip belt, but I like how the weight vest distributes the load and makes it more […]
Nike Romaleos 2 vs. Adidas Power Perfect II
Danny Nemani reviews the Nike Romaleos 2 and compares them to the Adidas Power Perfect II. Of course shoe reviews depend a lot on foot size and shape. What’s good for Danny might not feel right for you. But he concludes that the Nike Romaleos 2 have: reduced knee and hip wobble / ankle lateral wobble increased stability […]
Handstand Board
Jim from Beastskills.com shared a nice handstand training tool on the BeastSkills Facebook Page. A simple and brilliant idea from Yuval Ayalon. A board to practice handstands (and one arm handstands) that is level, mobile, and has two lines on it that help one visualize and keep their body in line.
Old School Russian Weightlifting Technique Drills
Check out this Russian weightlifting technique video from 1989. The title translates to something like “Methods of improving the technical skills”. One of the drills they show is a jump onto a box while snatching and cleaning. Anybody used this before? Also, check out this split jerk foot position device. I wonder how many people […]
Homemade Weightlifting Straps
Here is how you make yourself a pair of weightlifting straps similar to the IronMind Sew-Easy Lifting Straps (I really like these). Of course you can try all kinds of different materials, but in the video they use some of those Everlast straps, cut the loop and tape the ends together. Perfect size. Loop around the bar once. Quick setup.
