Seems like today is CrossFit athletes presentation day.
Get to know two awesome CrossFit athletes, Cherie and Matt Chan.
Cherie explains how she’s stronger at 37 than she was at 27 and how she and Matt train as a couple; and Matt, being a fire fighter, gives a tour of his fire station and discusses how he encouraged Cherie to go individual and his training program throughout the last year.
For 6 month out of the last year, Matt did strength training 3 days a week in a classic 3 on 1 off fashion. One max effort day, followed by accessory work. The other two days were dynamic effort days where he was working on speed. After the strength sessions on those 3 days he would add a CrossFit workout.
This year he changed things an started doing a working out in a more consistend 3 on 1 off, 2 on 1 off schedule.
Then as the year developed he, like most CF athletes, realised he needed a bit more volume.
In the month leading to the Games he did 2 workouts a day once every 2 weeks and also once 5 workouts in two days with minimal rest, just to see how his body reacts to the demand.
He also worked on gymnastics specific skills for 4 month, one or two days a week.
Asked why he does does CrossFit, Matt says:
I CF because i wanna be able to do anything in life without ever saysing no, whether its going white water rafting ,loong hikes with some friends. doing my job. i wanna be able to do whatever anybody asks me to do , and never have to turn something down because of physical limitations.
