Superb performance byboth lifters. It was a lot closer than I thought it’d be (though Shi probably had a few more kilos on the C&J – he almost had that 198!). Big props to the bronze medalist Artykov as well. He’s improved leaps and bounds since the 2014 World’s.

It didn’t take them long to figure out the magic behind Artykov’s improvement. Let’s just say the bronze was relocated to Javier of Colombia.

Yea, I know. 🙁 A massive improvement in a short period of time is usually a tell-tale sign of… You get my point.

Many (belated) thanks to Gregor for the super slo-mo. Makes it easier to appreciate the movement of Ismaylov’s feet, which is quite interesting.
He appears to pull with a slightly staggered stance, and the weight so far in front that the heel comes fully off the floor (at least on his right foot).
Note also how, after completing the pull, the right foot moves very little; it’s the left that goes up and sideways, and lands way behind the right foot.
At my nano-level, I’ve noticed that it happens to me too, when I’m trying to (power) snatch limit weights; rather than jumping off the platform with both feet, I end up pushing more off one leg, and having the other move sideways and forward.
