Android: Check out the Deep Squatter App on the Google Play Store (free).
It is an app that uses your smartphone’s sensors to track squat depth and speed.
Johan, the creator of the app, contacted me because he needs some guinea pigs.
With his app he wants to track how the squat speed and the speed curve changes with increasing weight and figure out some nice algorithm that can use the speed to predict daily 1RM.
So we need to gather some data and that’s where your help comes into play.
What you need to do:
- Do a specific workout a few times with the app running.
- Workout consists of stepping up to a close to 1 rm weight in increments of about 5 kg and about 10 sets in total.
- Last set doesn’t have to be a true 1RM, but it should be a bit of a grinder.
- When you have done the workout, you email the results of all the sets through the app to Johan ([email protected])
So if you want to help out, contact Johan via [email protected] for further details.
More information about the app in his post on Pendlay Forum.

wonder if this calculate velocity off all reps, so u can use like PowerTool/GymAware maybe?
Johan Simu says
You can get a list of the (concentric) max and average velocity for each rep in the set. It also draws graph showing the speed at the different angles etc. It its also possible to send the entire set as a comma separated list to your email so you can throw it into a excel sheet and fiddle around with the data. I would be happy to add more functionality if you can think of something you would like to see!

…this is awesome! Any plans for the iphone version?
Johan Simu says
Unfortunately its not on the horizon at the time being. To develop for iphone one needs to use a mac and it is quite pricy to be a iphone devloper. Because I do the development on my free time and without any budget I can’t really fork up for a mac or the yearly development fee for the apple store. If I manage to make a few bucks on the android version maybe iphone version could become reality or if some iphone developer would like to cooperate with me.

This.Is.AWESOME. Now I just wish I could afford a data plan, lol.

would be nice if graph showed the degree of each rep per set

nvm just figured out how to find that this can be nice to use 🙂
