Here is another Blast from the (not so distant) Past …
Dmitry Lapikov (+105kg) with a 215kg Snatch + 251kg Clean & Jerk in what looks like the Taganrog training camp.
Maybe some of you attending the Klokov seminars can ask Dmitry when this was filmed.
Also check out his other 215kg Snatch and 210kg x2 Snatch here.
Other 215kg Snatchers:
- Behdad Salimi’s 215kg Snatch
- Alexandr Kurlovich 215kg Snatch + 266kg Clean & Jerk
- Ashot Danielyan 215kg Snatch 262.5kg Clean & Jerk
Update: Another 215kg, this time in training.

I wish to see him back in international competition.

Me too. Someone needs to push Salimi. His gold medal total a London was the lowest in 20 years.

With moulalei and albegovs recent performance there will be quite a lot of pushing
Everett says
True, they both out totaled Salimi’s London performance by a large margin.

Dima Klokov says the video was before London. It looks like Lapikov was continuing to demonstrate that he was ready to compete in London and was still hoping that his ridiculous and unheard of (for methylhexanamine which is common in ordinary over-the-counter supplements) two-year (reduced from four-year!) disqualification would be lifted. Lapikov’s violation occurred in 2011, and that same year Khalil El Maoui received a 5-month ban for methylhexanamine and there are others who received reduced sentences for methylhexanamine. You can verify this at http://www.iwf.net/anti-doping/sanctioned-athletes/. How do you explain Lapikov’s grossly disproportionate punishment?

Guys I have a question for you all.
I’ve seen top weightlifters training with straps. Basically 90% of the time I see them training with straps.
Is there a reason for that? (stupid question.. Of course there is)
Another question is : I heard straps can be dangerous if you try your personal record. Is it true? Because a lot of weightlifters use them also when trying their PR.
Thank you!!

Generally in weightlifting of this level, grip is first thing to go/be weakened when doing mid-high volume. At max attempts, grip is crucial so that the barbell is positioned to where you want it to be.
