Meanwhile in Romania …
Gabriel Sincraian started a youtube series titled “Road to 300kg”.
Looking back at how easy he stood up with his 217kg Clean & Jerk in Rio you would think that during his prime he wasn’t too far off the 300kg mark.
Remember, after his positive test he already uploaded some impressive training videos, which showed him front squatting 240kg x2.
mrtn86 says
Gets busted, squatting near to 300kg. Receives ban – first thing he does is to announce he is going to hit 300kg.
Not even trying to hide how he isn’t giving a shit about clean athletes. Hope it will be his road to lifetime ban (however not really probably in Romania).
vlad says
This is his second bust, so he is practically already banned for life and will never attend official competition. So he is completely free to not give a shit about anyone and announce whatever squat goal he likes.
mrtn86 says
Okay, didn’t know that..
grobpote says
What clean athletes? You are delusional.
mrtn86 says
Exactly the same discussion as always..so exhausting! Again the same counterargument:
There are several countries (France, Germany, USA,…) where in the meantime athletes at the very least could not abuse PEDs anywhere near the extent they do it in countries like Romania.
I know, it’s not easy to conceive of this, especially for people who are socialised in the eastern europe environment of competitive weightlifting.
grobpote says
There is no such a thing as abuse of drugs. There are positive and negative cases. That’s it. No one gets plus points for taking less pills. I wouldn’t like to hurt your feelings but you probably never got to the point of lifting internationally. You would be surprised how far a lifter can get without steroids. And I am not talking about for example a 85 kg lifter who says he can snatch 150 kg clean – after he did 165 with PEDs and stopped taking it. I am talking about actually getting there. It’s not about have been socialized in any kind of environment. It’s simple physics. You’re just simply making a statement about something you never tried to do. If you’d tried you wouldn’t be saying completely out of line things about weightlifting. As I always say it doesn’t matter where you come from or how talented you are – you’ll never run sub 10 sec on the hundred without drugs.Ever. No,Usain Bolt neither.
mrtn86 says
But you of course have been a lifter in today’s national teams of Germany or France…?
There is enough scientific evidence that the performance enhancing effect of PEDs could be quantified with up to 10% in strength sports, maybe in weightlifting becaue of the influence of the technique factor slightly less. If you have a look at the results of countries with more strict anti-doping-rules, you will detect, that their performances are around 10% or more away from the top performances.
So there is absolutely no scientific proof or “simple physics”, showing that every athlete in international competition stages is or was abusing drugs.
grobpote says
Well done, you read about it very thoroughly. The thing is,it’s completely different in real life. You never get over the injuries and simple stops in progress without drugs lets say around 16-19 years of age. Anabolic steroids have a far bigger affect on the body then they acknowledge. I saw incredible 50-70 kg differences in total in just 6 or 8 months period. When you are actually in the sport and doing it on a high level you understand how does that feel literally.
I know that I probably won’t be able to convince you but think before you write down judgemental statements about a Gabriel Sincraian kind of lifters who actually proved himself in WL and any sport loving fan would appreciate what he’s done not just in Rio but during his whole carrier.
mrtn86 says
I do have a few “real life” insights to weightlifting on professional level here in Germany. And you are definitely right, PEDs are much more than just cycling up for the Olympics. Plateaus and injuries cause much more time ressources to overcome when you labour under such a strict anti-doping surveillance. And this is also one reason, why german weightlifters are not longer on the highest level, where they have been in the 80s and 90s, but rather lifting in B groups, 5-15% away from the top performances (sure, this is not the only reason…). Nevertheless, in my opinion it proves that you can pursue olympic weightlifting without these eastern european, asian,… attitude concerning drub abuse.
This is independent from my view on Sincraian. It doesn’t play a role if I believe nobody is clean or not. He gets caught twice and reflected a very badly light on weightlifting.
grobpote says
It’s definitely NOT just eastern european or asian attitude. Germany doesn’t have a world class lifter at this moment but if they had a talent like Weller was, they would prepare him to win the olympic gold for sure. Also there are many other sports where Germany is very successful and nobody gets olympic or world champion without taking drogs or as you say abuse it. Every single country is in it because champions – sadly – all have to enhance themselves to win. As lack of controls, yes you are right but it still gives the same outcome: western or eastern country ,they all positive at the day of the competition to be able to win. So if you ever took banned substances you’re a doper. I am saying this because I think there is no difference between eastern and western doping in terms of size: an olympic champ has to take the same amount of doping everywhere in the world to win.The number of controls won’t make them cleaner.
Pro says
You can mince words about abuse and testing but the point remains that there are rules. This guy broke them. If he is still listed as a competitive athlete, WADA should be able to check what (if any) help he has in achieving this 300 kg target.
IWF has been too lenient in its stance towards doping and allowed the situation where countries with lax doping control began to dominate the sport. Contrast this with sports where control was stricter and athletes from many more countries can succeed in the olympics.
grobpote says
WL has always been – at least in the last 40 years – dominated by eastern countries. And if you think that the other two on the podium didn’t brake the rules like Sincraian then you should think this through again. No need for scientific evidence just to sit down and use your logic. Maybe Rostami and Tao are more talented but not that much 🙂
logicalfellac says
Are you really this delusional? Wow.
IlPrincipeBrutto says
I wonder if any of the guys around him realise that they are in the presence of an Olympic level athlete. Even better, I wonder if any of them will one day approach him to tell him that he’s going too deep, or that he should look up, or that he’s going to bust his knees.
