Hysen Pulaku 210kg Clean & Jerk

October 24, 2014 By Gregor Winter

Meanwhile in Albania … they are still in Greece

Here is a 210kg Clean & Jerk by Hysen Pulaku.

His bodyweight is around 80kg. Remember he is still technically one of the potential 77kg lifters for Albania. Despite what the (no so) “final” start list says, the final composition of the team is still undecided. So we could still end up seeing Hysen in either 77 or 85kg.

Update: 28.10.2014: Hysen will lift in the 85kg category. I hear he has done 170+215 in training now.

As I pointed out in an update to his 205 post, “It was confirmed by the IWF to the Albanian federation that Hysen can lift at the Rio Olympics!”.

Yeah, he’s back for good! Excellent lifting from him as always. I bet he is doing back squats and pulls now. You can see it! Did him good.

Whats the deal with Hysen? Banned from the olympics for life but not other international competitions?

Update 27.09.2014: It was confirmed by the IWF to the Albanian federation that Hysen can lift at the Rio Olympics!

He can lift at Olympics and any other competition

        Very cool. Thanks.

Why is that? I thought banned at Olympics = banned from all Olympics. Or is it at their own discretion?

His ban was up as of 27/07/2014

Yeah but I thought a ban at the Olympics was a lifetime ban for the Olympics and you could still compete at other competitions

that was the ban originally, but they decided to allow him to compete.

He actually looks leaner than when he did the 211kg in 2012. My guess is he’s probably close to 77kg and that we’ll see him at the Worlds. Hope so anyway.

It’s fair that he can compete at the Olympics, as his positive wasn’t in the actual competition (hell, he didn’t even compete!)

If he enters the 85’s it’s going to be fun. 210 at 80 kg should move him into contention if he enters 4 or 5 kg heavier.

Somebody please explain to me what the fuss is about him? Sorry, but I’ve never understood this. 341 comp best is good enough for the A group but not the podium.
Doesn’t his case proof once more that the Bulgarian “system” doesn’t work in modern times? What’s the point of a 211 training C&J if he loses 20kg when he has to pass IC testing?

I think a good part of the fuss came from the idea that he might lift for the USA., which for the past four decades has not produced many A group lifters. And if Pulaku continued to improve, he would have been a medal contender

Exactly, I’ve always wondered about this. It seems that he got busted on a drug test and for some reason, there is tremendous sympathy for him, some people even suggesting that they should retest all the samples, and find them all positive so he could go on the podium again. Other people are just really really happy that he can lift in Rio even though he was busted, and in general, you can’t show up at any more Olympics after getting busted at one. Why do people want to see him lift so badly? He’s not that good and his form isn’t beautiful to watch either.

I want to see him lift BECAUSE his form isn’t great – he’s lifting unofficial WRs through almost sheer willpower. And if you ever heard him do a brief interview or watched some of his training, he seems like an incredibly humble and likable kid.
He failed a drug test…..because he was using drugs…..and so is everyone at the top level in weightlifting.

I kinda figured he was a nice kid who put up decent weights. OK, cool, I guess. I don’t know if it’s an unofficial WR if he beat a 77WR from 83kg body weight in training though… From what I think, unofficial WRs have to be made at some kind of event (such as the nationals) where the athlete made weight and had 3 attempts. Yeah, I bet everyone up there uses PEDs to some extent, but he got caught probably cus he used too much at the wrong time. I don’t see why there’s so much sympathy for that; it’s not like they randomly or for some political reason selected him and tested the schit out of his blood while letting everyone else slide.

Well to put a little perspective getting caught on drugs was a big shocker since he competed in an official meet in the USA prior. Since we hold the dear USA as land of the drug free he became popular as lifting weights unheard of before in the western hemisphere. Coupled with perhaps his lighting speed and insane efficiency made him pretty likable. If you also realize that he had no real financial backing besides his family supporting him it makes it more of an underdog to root for story. Instead of the perfect form insanely strong backed by an entire nation with money and coaching Chinese jacked athletes. He’s more likeable IMO simply because you can relate to him more than Lu Xiaojun from a lifting perspective. Long femurs not that jacked not that strong (compared to lu) and not that rich. I can tell you firsthand Hysen and all the other albanian athletes are dirt poor compared to even B rate Chinese and Russian weightlifters.

He was in videos on http://www.youtube.com/podiumgoldwlclub with Abadjiev, Krychev and Ian Wilson. During that time there wasn’t a lot of people submitting videos to YouTube etc apart from clarence0, broz and california strength. There wasn’t a lot of places where you could view people regularly break records (in training) apart from watching old eurosports videos from frank. It was great seeing a guy progress week on week during that time, having friendly competitions in that club etc.

Okay, apparently linking youtube.com/ podiumgoldwlclub embeds a video.

Damn Right. Bulgarians used to do World records everyday. These times are nearly over. Training records don’t count.Hysen’s style isn’t the best at all, and we know why he is so strong.
Anyway, seems he is not in for Rio anymore after a second positive test!.

Amazing how people keep backing the dopingsystem. Logical that doping doesn’t disappear when everyone seems to find it ok. And yes at the top it is difficult to find clean lifters, but some subtop lifters are clean and they might be way better lifters then some of these cheaters.
For me it would be a nice thought to be able to learn my kids weightlifting without having to worry about “the system”!
