This popped up on the BB.com forums.
Don’t know if this Facebook account is the Hysen (Hysein?), but if it is, this makes me sad.
There must be someone reading this (Hey Podium Gold Guys!) who are in contact with Hysen. Let us know what’s up!
Thanks to Anton for submitting.

What a shame. Definitely one of the most talented lifters in the world right now, just look at the video of him attempting 150 kg at 14.
John says
For those who haven’t seen the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRdxl6fTFMo
143 C&J and 150 clean at 56 kg… as a 14-year-old.
GregorATG says
Posted his other videos from age 7 and 9 here https://allthingsgym.com/2012/05/hysen-pulaku-the-early-years/

tfw no olympics
Woss Di Julio says
I am pretty sure that is his FB page. Pictures of him, as well as friends with Ian Wilson……
Ian says
Another casualty of WADA, up next: the sport of weightlifting.
Jacob says
He is a causality of his own decision. He is no victim, no martyr.
Jake says
Without the drugs it would be impossible for him to keep up with the Chinese anyway, despite his incredible natural talent. It’s either do what’s necessary to win or never really competitive at all. Those of us who aren’t gifted will never have to make that choice so it’s not fair of us to judge. I don’t know about blaming WADA though, if anyone deserves blame it’s the IWF.
Jacob says
Forget judgment. I don’t understand how you can blame any organization or country. His choice, his consequences. Certainly when you are secretly taking drugs, you must know getting caught is a possibility. Otherwise you would not keep it secret.
Jay says
The thing is the whole organisation is hypocritical as everyone is doing it anyway. Why do you think world records are more often broken in national competitions than in official ones, especially as those comps are NEVER tested? Obviously bodyweight is a factor, but still.
yolo says
Yes very true and some countries are better at getting passed tests which makes the whole system unfair. Maybe a country will bring him in that will have a better way of getting around tests.
Jon says
I think podium gold is closed right now. There 2 main lifters aren’t training anymore and there’s a rumor that Krychev is Caught up with the mafia.
Pete says
Do you have a source where we could read about this?
sebK says
Guys keep in mind his english is pretty broken, i think when he said “i done” he actually meant “I don’t”, which in the context of the question would mean “I don’t train very much now”. It doesn’t necessarily means he is done with lifting.
sporting says
If he was translating directly then “i done” is alot worse in albanian. Again this is just speculation.
DaTruth1 says
Sporting confirmed for Albanian native language
Matt says
He has told me he will not lift again…as he cannot compete in any future Olympics…lifting had taken a big toll on his body too. Very sad story.
GregorATG says
Oh man…
Joe says
Has he received a lifetime ban because he tested positive in competition? Is that correct?
AC says
Yes, testing positive at the Olympics disqualifies you for life I.e. why Klokov didn’t compete- he tested positive in Russia so didn’t bother flying over and risking his career or future Olympic chances.
Guest says
AFAIK Klokov and Akkaev both cited they would retire after these games.
Johnny says
You lie.
… right?
Guest says
No it was in the documentary about them, although since they didn’t go I’m sure we’ll be seeing them next year.
Johnny says
By next year do you mean next Olympics?
GregorATG says
No, next year.
I think Guest was referring to these interviews
Klokov: https://allthingsgym.com/2012/09/dmitry-klokov-interview-post-london-2012/
Akkaev: https://allthingsgym.com/2012/08/akkaev-comments-on-his-injury-and-future/
Jay says
I am not sure we will see them again. New olympic cycles are always a great time to bring up new lifters and with the new coach and them both being quite old next time around…who knows.
Alex Gorham says
Klokov was actually at London in the training hall pre competition. Ilya was watching him lift and matching all his attempts whilst training.
Source: one of the coaches I train with who was at the Olympics
GregorATG says
Interesting. First time I hear that.
Jay says
The way I read the judgement that was cited on this site was the he has not received a lifetime ban from any international competitions, however since he tested positive at the games he would not be allowed to compete there again and he wouldn’t be able to earn any points for Albania either. In this context it would make perfect sense that he would stop.

The sad thing here is that Hysen is quite young, 19 I believe? Sure he is an adult and has to live with his decisions, but I bet some people very close to him were influencing him to make the decision (and it appears it was a sloppy plan drug wise). Shame, feel bad for the guy, he was awesome to watch and had a great attitude.
