Ian Wilson 170kg Snatch + 205kg Clean & Jerk

February 3, 2014 By Gregor Winter

Great performance by Ian Wilson at the 2014 U.S. Junior Nationals.

He nailed a 170kg Snatch and 205kg C&J weighing 100.3kg.

This would have gotten him Gold in C&J and Total at the 2013 Jr. Worlds .

He went:

  • Snatch: 160 166X 170
  • Clean & Jerk: 195 205 210X

Here is the 170kg Snatch in slow motion.

HookGrip has a composite of the Snatch (as well as a nice sequence).

Also check out 13 year old Clarence Cummings’ lifts from that meet.

Everytime I see this guy I still feel that there is hope for us long-limbed lifters

And he weighed in at 100.3! That’s a lot of room left to grow in that weight class

He looked like he had more in the snatch. Beast.

And he does insane amounts of cardio, look at his instagram

      disregard, that’s not him

It wouldn’t just put him on the podium at junior worlds, it would have put him in 1st! Rodion Bochkov won with 374.
A few other things about this: this tops Donny Shankle’s best comp total (373). It is the eighth highest Sinclair in US history.

That’s phenomenal! It represents a major improvement from his performances at the 2013 Jr. Worlds (158/191/348) and the 2013 Universiade (158/197/355). And he does have room to grow

Didn’t he go to both of those as a 94 though?

yes. he was too damn tall to be a 94 though. glad he started eating.

Nope. He was a 105 at both and weighed in between 98 and 99 kg.

Looks very promising. Great performance. I hope to see him soon on the senior tournaments.

I doubt he’s back for good, just dropping by more likely.

Rob Adell made a 170kg snatch at 96kg (albeit with straps), it was the most impressive lifting I’ve seen. I personally thought if he continued to train he could’ve done 175/215.

Apparently Rob is back. John Broz has a vid up.

missing 166 but still going up to 170 and making it. Huge balls …

How the hell does he recover from the snatch in that position?! Amazing.

He’s the best hope for US Weightlifting. If he can add 25-30kg he can be a potential medalist on the world stage.
