Meanwhile in Kazakhstan …
Ilya Ilyin hits a 195kg Snatch off Blocks
Only 5kg of his 200kg Block Snatch from before London 2012.
This weekend (July 19/20) he, along with other big names like Almas Uteshov, Maya Maneza, Zulfiya Chinshanlo and Svetlana Podobedova, are scheduled to compete in the Anatoly Khrapaty memorial tournament in Kazakhstan (via).
The result of this competition will determine the teams for the Asian Games and World Championships (although I am pretty sure Ilya will lift at worlds).
Update: Ilya Snatched 185kg and Clean & Jerked 239kg at that competition!
Update: The video I added below, shows him attempting 200kg too that day
Follow his comeback buildup with the Ilya Progress Tracker.

As opposed to other lifters like Klokov, it always amazes me how damn quick Ilya is with his lift preparation – often times he just goes up there, 5 seconds later he snatches it like it’s nothing…

You mention the Anatoly Khrapaty Memorial Tournament. I guess that means he passed away. If so, I am surprised. I remember him in the 90s when I first got into weightlifting, he was still going strong at that time. Does anyone know what happened to him?

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatoly_Khrapaty
“Khrapaty died at age 45 as the result of a motorcycle accident near the Kazakh capital of Astana. He died immediately when his bike was hit by an oncoming vehicle.”

He was of of the greatest of all time. I was very sad when I heard about his death. 🙁 He cleaned that 237,5 at the 1988 Games – that was unique!

Does anyone know what they yell out when Ilya is lifting (usually during maximal attempts)?
