Here is a highlight from Ilya’s journey back to the top: 230kg Jerk from the Rack!
The other day, after his Front Squats (240kg x2 at 11:00 here) Ilya said:
As you can see, I squatted 240 for a double, felt pretty good. In three months I’m going to jerk that. [puts the finger on his lips] Just don’t tell anyone.*
By the way, you can always stay up to date on his progress by checking the Ilya Progress Tracker here.
Update 07.08.2014: Ilya got a 245kg Rack Jerk
Update: YouTube Video with the whole sequence of him working up to 230kg.
Update 23.05.2014: For Max Out Friday Ilya hits a 225kg Clean & Jerk and a 250kg Front Squat.

By “jerk that” I assume he means clean and jerk? I seem to to remember in the past “jerk” referring to the full lift..

Not necessarily. In Russian the word for “jerk,” tolchok from tolkat’ meaning to ‘push’ or ‘jerk’ something, is used to refer to both the clean and jerk as a whole moment and to the jerk alone. To ‘clean’ a barbell is brat’ shtangu na grud’ (literally, ‘take to the chest), and to jerk it is tolkat’ shtangu, but the latter is routinely used to mean both to clean and to jerk. To refer specifically to a jerk from a set of squat racks, one would say ‘jerk from the racks,’ tolchok so stoek, but in normal conversation one would just say tolchok without specifying how the barbell got to one’s chest/shoulders. So Ilya probably simply did not specify what kind of jerk.
