Meanwhile in the UK …
Ilya Ilyin visited the British student championships. So the Weightlifting World Podcast used this opportunity to interviewed him.
Topics:
- how his training changed as he got older
- at age 16 Enver Turkeleri introduced a new system to Kazakhstan
- Training: slowly ramping up, now 2 hours per day with 1 day classic, 1 day other sport
- after 2 months , more classical lifts
- then alternate 2 times per day up, 1 day 1 training
- then add a third session, Mo 1, Tue 3, Wed 1, Th 3, Fri 2 or 1, Sa 1 if Fri was max
- stopped uploading videos, coaches don’t want him to publicize his method
- his 242kg Clean & Jerk and visualization
- possible bests 195/245, maybe 250 (low balling here, he mentioned different numbers before)
- will finish his career at 32 in 2020

HE WAS IN THE UK?? Nuts
Leviathar says
198-250 i think, like his london form was insane and as his first year as a 105 he already got 190-242, so give him some years and i think it will be insane
Roy Mitchell says
superb athlete, role model
Beto says
Enver Turkeleri, the man who found and coached Naim

I just read an interview with Enver Turkeleri. You can add Halil Mutlu and Taner Sagir to that list. Talk about scouting qualities…

This guy is impressive
Beto says
Thanks man, good reading.
Jerker Karlsson says
Really interesting article about Enver Turkeleri. He coached with/under Abadjiev in Bulgaria when they rivalled the USSR, then moved to Turkey for their golden era and now on to Kazakstan, and that nation becomes a powerhouse in the sport. He definitely knows how to spot talent and develop athletes.
Jon says
Yordan Ivanov who was also an assistant for Abadjiev started coaching for Iran over 15 years ago.
Sam says
his English is pretty good

“stopped uploading videos, coaches don’t want him to publicize his method”
So no Rio build-up then? 🙁 His vlog was one of the best pieces of weightlifting on YouTube. His method is pretty clear at this point anyway. I don’t know what’s about all this secretiveness. As if any world class weightlifter can adapt and instantly profit from Ilya’s training template. Like the man said himself only Kydyrbaev was able to follow his routine. The “big secret” behind his success is simple: He is Ilya Ilyin. The others are not.
drarara says
all whats left are instagram vids.still waiting for 245 make and 250 miss videos.i agree its not like he reveals something big. well coaches want to get paid, and its easier to up funding by telling the president of KZ that its some sort of secret system)
Sergiy says
He could film the whole preparation, and then share it with the world after his career is over. I would still watch it.
Luc Lapierre says
I don’t get the secrecy either. It’s not as if publicizing his training methods is going to change the competition results. The guy who shows up and lifts the most kilos on the day wins, simple as that.
GeeROiD says
Wow. His english is REALLY impressive in comparison to when he did the tour with klokov. He knew/said a few words in passing but this is just mind blowing.
If only I could learn Russian this swiftly.

English it’s a pretty easy language to learn…just need grammar some vocabulary and it’s done
