Meanwhile in Russia …
Remember Khetag Khugaev?
Let me help you:
- in 2011 at 56kg he did 80+100
- then 174kg Clean at age 14
- 150kg Snatch at 15 (and 81.3kg) and 2013 European U17 Champion …
Now at age 16 years he won the Russian U17 Championships 85kg category with 164+196=360!
Let that sink in for a second.
His result was the highest total in the entire competition, including the +94kg (Results PDF). The 2nd in the 85kg totaled 280kg. So Khetag is definitely an outlier, even by Russian standards.
In the competition he went 6/6 with: 145, 155, 164 + 175, 185, 196.
164kg Snatch
196kg Clean & Jerk
Thanks to Be Bik for sending those in.

Absolutely unbelievable.

My first reaction was, holy crap. Then my next thought was, I’m 99% sure this would have won last years Nationals in Canada…by 25kg. It would have won the 94 division by 38kg, the 105 by 34kg and taken second in the 105+ (G. Kobaladze did 400kg).
Gregor says
Mind boggling. Similar situation in Germany. He would have won the 85,94,105 in the 2013 nationals.
mrtn says
i dont think he would make 360 in canadian, german or international championships 😉 anyway, outstanding talent..
jezepe says
why not?

Ped’s i suggest

I doubt the Russians are feeding peds to a 16 yr old. Seems to me they are pretty smart about taking care of their athletes for longevity sake, and that would most certainly be the opposite of that.
mrtn says
lol. i’m sure they already started 1-2 years earlier..

Kashirina was suspended for two years after winning the 2006 European Juniors at the age of 15.
jakele says
Wow, i stand corrected…
Tom Bennett says
not feeding peds to 16 year olds? Doubt that. Illin was 18ish and won a world championship. Do you really think he wasn’t on for that?
Leon says
O my god. What an athlete. I hope he keeps on going until the senior level. Very exciting and impressive.
Heebus says
What in the actual fuck…

I believe Ilya did 170 / 216 as a Youth at the 2005 Worlds. This kid will probably take his snatch record but that 217 C&J seems untouchable!

Please excuse me while I clean the pieces of my mind off the wall…

It looks like he has grown a fair amount in height, likely will be -94 soon and -105 eventually.
grobpote says
If he goes on like this,he will retire at the age of 22.Very impressive, very unhealthy.
Tom Bennett says
why?
grobpote says
It’s just nature. Everyone wears off eventually. If you come early you go early too. Too fast progress, too big weights in very early age. I know there is Ilya and … ah,nobody else! 🙂 It’s very hard to stay healthy if you burn yourself out young.
Tom Bennett says
Definitely…I thought you were maybe implying he was going crazy with the drugs or something along those lines.
grobpote says
No, I wasn’t implying anything like that. Of course he’s taking his pills 🙂 but who isn’t. Actually if someone is a maturing early type like him,I am not even sure that he has to take lot of drogs because he’s growing up and progress can be very fast at that age. It’s just if someone is like a rocket in that age, the trainer and the team behind him have to be very careful and look after him. You see, we were all made from the same matter and his joints are not ready for that kind of load. Hopefully his trainer won’t push him into an early retire.
Tom Bennett says
Yeah I see what you’re saying kind of like Szymon Kolecki…hitting a world record 232kg at 18 years of age! I think he got some injuries and though he easily had the potential, never won Olympic gold.Of course he was up against some of the best ever like Khakisvilis… He never quite got back to those original numbers-I guess injuries?
Tom Bennett says
what does “d’zhin” mean (It’s Russian right?)…does it mean “tight” or “push”?
