When you thought you were showing up to a weightlifting meet but it’s really Saturday night fever

A WR total on 4 attempts is just nuts

Nah. There was no competition at this meet and he followed himself. Not a lot of pressure. Ilya ilyin did the same thing at the presidents cup. (Actually he missed his second attempt on the snatch and upped the weight I think) which is similar. Lol

Ilya took 5 attempts. Only skipped third C/J, not third snatch. I understand what you’re saying about no competition and following himself though. Also, if Kianoush hit say, 178, on third snatch, my guess is he would still prob go 210, 217, 220 on C/J

85s is stacked. Tian looking for 181/220 or more. Rostami just hit 175/220 and can potentially do more. I hope nobody gets popped so we can see them all compete against each other.

Okulov and Apti also looking good. Also, apparently Tian hit 225 in training..

too late for that unfortunatelly, *cough, Markov, cough*
Imagine the 85 with him also in the mix. Still, I know where I will be when these beasts will battle it out, in the arena hopefully watching in person.

Yufkin was there but was 2nd by 23 kg.

This competition was for Sohrab Moradi, 94 kg, to be eligible for Rio. He will bum in Rio if not get caught as before for PED. Behdad Salimi showed he can compete for lesser medal in Rio as well.

That’s probably the easiest the 220 has ever looked for him. Congrats on the new WR!

They should call Kianoush “The Helicopter” because he always ends up rotating his body at the top of his jerk. Probably has something to do with the way he stands up out of the split.

A programming question: Isn’t it dangerous to peak like this only a couple of months off a major competition? isn’t there a risk that by the time Rio comes around, he won’t have recovered enough to be able to give his best?

That thought did cross my mind as well, especially because that seemed to be the case with the Iranians in London BUT the Games are still 8 weeks away. And we know the Iranians train with near-max weights daily as a rule. So perhaps they don’t consider this a true peak. Plus he only took 4 attempts. I do hope he is in top form in Rio. It may take a 400 total to win.
