Is there a specific reason why he is avoiding lockout at top of the squat?

    • Damian says

      October 20, 2013 at 17:14

to avoid unnecessary tensions on his knee-joint

        October 20, 2013 at 19:18

But tension in the knee is much greater when not locked out!

YOU DARE QUESTION THE CHINESE METHODS OF TRAINING??

    • Magneto says

I’m quite sure it’s to maintain constant tension in the quads. He only goes to parallel for that reason too. Its a squat style that you see very often in chinese training halls.

Just a note, I think the reason the squat is slightly/bellow parallel and not “completely” ATG is just the way some of these Chinese lifters are built.

I’m Chinese and the bottom of my squat is where Lu’s is and other Chinese lifters I’ve seen. Short legs bro! If I really want to push the ATG I really have to try to squeeze it down there and do funky stuff with my back/stance instead of just keeping straight and squatting through myself.

Just a thought though! It could be advanced level technician stuff, but I honestly just think it’s the way some of the Chinese lifters are built and stance.

Judging from where he paused near the lockout I assume it was to get extra work on his dip and drive for the jerk.

cant wait to see him. I was lucky today to meet a few great names, Szimon Kolecki obviously, Oscar Figeroa Mosquera, also Oleksiy Trokhtiy, who is as a spectator here. I sat behind the entire polish women team at the 48 category, they came to support their teammate. but she didnt medal.

Great that you are there. Have fun (and share some anecdotes).

I will, no doubt. Here is one pic out of many from the first day:

oh, and I got some bad news, not exactly the anecdotes you may hoped for 🙁

Few countries will be missing, like Mongolia, who were late with their official signing for the wch, so no champs for them, and also the Czech team, Jirka Orszag caught unfortunately

You mean caught by doping controllers? That would be such a same 🙁 🙁

Indeed, what a waste this ban is going to be, he was coming along nicely 🙁

seems like he cuts his squat short of full depth, especially compared to his snatch and C n J

      October 22, 2013 at 00:49

Not sure where that 260kg squat in hook grip’s photo above is “short of full depth”?

      • Mike says

        October 22, 2013 at 02:37

True, the paused squat from hookgrips photo is deeper than his others, but if you look at the other reps compared to his snatch or clean bottom position they are considerably higher…

          October 22, 2013 at 02:43

Fair point.. I think it goes along with the above he is cutting short at both extremes of full range of motion – Would help prevent injury.

Do you guys know why his right elbow rotates backwards more at the bottom of the squat position?

cause ive always had that same problem and I wonder if its due to shoulder flexibility issues

    • James Chou says

      October 24, 2013 at 13:35

*my shoulder flexibility issues. i know lu xiaojun is pretty damn flexible 😉
