Marcin Dolega Suspended by Polish Weightlifting Federation *Update*

August 26, 2015 By Gregor Winter

#149912967 / gettyimages.com

Meanwhile in Poland …

Marcin Dolega supposedly tested positive for elevated levels of norandrosterone (nandrolone or its derivatives) at the 2014 President’s Cup 🙁

Update 27.08.2015: Final Verdict – 2 Year Ban until 15.10.2016 (via).

Why 2 years? Instead of a lifetime ban for his second offense he gets 2 years because his first ban was more than 8 years ago.

Maybe Polish readers can help and translate what is being written here and here, as I don’t want to make false statements.

Here is the situation as I understand it right now.

The excess of doping threshold is said to be very little and Marcin is hoping that test B will prove him innocent. The results of the B sample will be known in 2 weeks.

Due to the suspicion of drug use the Polish Weightlifting association has suspended Marcin for the time being until there is a full explanation for this. That means he will not compete at the 2014 World Championships. He was supposed to lift at nationals last weekend, where he was seen the day before the competition, but did not show up the next day for his session (citing back injury).

If he is found to be guilty this would be his second offense (after his 2 year ban in 2004) which would result in a lifetime ban.

Thanks to everybody who submitted this.

It says that Zielinski got yellow card from ADAMs system. Probably did not inform doping control organ about his correct whereabouts.

What is more the excess of doping threshold is said to be very little and Marcin is hoping (as usual in such cases) that test B will prove him innocent.

The only thing to add is that (according to the first polish article you linked) is that ‘sample B’ testing takes around 2 weeks and it is extremely rare that sample A and sample B results will differ.

Seems like Dolega got lifetime ban. here more information about Zielinski’s yellow card:

It doesn’t look like there is a final verdict in. The article just mentions the possibility I think

You are right, I was mislead by the title. However other information are new (Dolega missing Adams control)

Initially, the official reason for pulling out from nationals was “back injury.”
Besides, they use sometimes vague phrases in these articles, meaning journalists are speculating, or have unofficial source.

Let’s hope the other sample proves him innocent.

There needs to be an increse in suspension time from 2 years to at least 4 years for first time offender.

Yes. He had at least one (maybe two?) attempt supported overhead but lost it on the recovery.

He had to get popped with that hairline.

Sad though, hope the B sample comes back good.

I’m Polish I have competed in Powerlifting on amateur level, I read the Polish articles if you have any further questions on Dolega or need help translating feel free to email me. What you said is true, one thing to keep in mind is that levels of norandrosterone can be elevated in urine after intense activity or and this I think is most important thing… after eating BOAR OR PIG MEAT/ORGANS… I am Polish and huge part of Polish diet s from Pig and Boar… I would say 70% of Polish diet for hundreds of years either from domestic pig or Boar found in the forests and fields that are hunted and have been hunted for 1000 years by Poles. Poles like to eat a lot of dishes revolving around pig organs or organ meals, this is a possibility especially since his level were only slightly high.. eating pig offal has been shown to increase norandrosterone levels two to four times. He does look unusually stocky for guy his height but not unusual for polish men. We will have to wait and see.

as an athlete, he is. but he can still work as a coach, which wouldn’t have been possible with a lifetime ban.
