Here is Matthias Steiner talking about his live as a professional athlete with type 1 diabetes.
He talks about how the diagnostic system has improved over the last years, making it way more torlarable.
Being a diabetic, the first thing after he gets up in the morning is checking his blood sugar levels. He does that 30-45 min prior to breakfast, so he can correct it with insulin if necessary.
He seems to do 2 sessions per day.
- training starts at 9:30
- 12:00 or 12:30 lunch
- 15:30 warm up for 2nd training session
- 16:00 next training session until 18:00 or 18:30
After that: massages, sauna, baths, dinner.
Depending on his sugar levels he will have something to eat late at night.
23:00 or at the very last 23:30 bed time
I love how they managed to not show a single lift. The entire video is fragments of him setting up for that pull.
Update: This video has more footage of him and is way more informative.

Any ideas where to get straps like that?
Andreas Buchalla says
they are handmade by a former weightlifter in austria, forgot the name of this guy.. one of our masters-athletes got the same straps.
Maybe i’ll meet Matthias’ father at the “Masters Europa-Cup” in Vienna this weekend, and will try to squeeze out some updates on Matthias 😉
