Notice how he actually racked the bar afterwards. Maybe it’s because he had to be helped up but you just don’t see that much in these videos. Why do they all seem to dump loaded bars behind them? Do they think it looks good or something?

mostly you see the heaviest and last set on video, so maybe afterwards the barbell is needed for an exercise which starts from the floor. the fastest way to get the bar to the ground is to dump it 😉

there are videos of micha dumping the bar after squatting, too.

besides this it can be very dangerous to walk around with a few houndred kilos on your neck, after having squatted to your limit.

It doesn’t “look good”–it’s far safer to drop the bar than to have spotters pull it off you. It’s easy to tweak your back sense with two side spotters one almost inevitably lifts up more or more quickly than the other. The guys do it alright in this video, but they still get one side up a little higher than the other initially. When you’re already compromised, having gone to failure at the end of a set, that’s a great way to pull something. This was a light load for Koklyaev is probably why he did it; he also may have done some more sets after. But if you have bumpers, dumping the weight behind you is always the safest option.

Unfortunately I’ve never trained at a gym (and I’ve been to lots) where I was allowed to dump a bar off my back. If I ever did it I had to justify it as a dire emergency. Therefore I’ve found myself having to rack up as much as 370kg. I always took the racking stage to be just as much part of squatting as the unracking and the actual deep knee bend. After all, if you were to dump the bar like that in a power comp you’d think you’d been transported to Sleaze St. Amsterdam by being bathed in so much red light..
However, I do think it can “look good” to some folk as the dumper is showing off that:
        A) They have got access to a really cool gym or they have the gravitas to be able to do it in more normal places.
        B) They are not bothered about stripping the bar and have others, minions perhaps, to do it for them. It’s much harder to strip a bar on the floor and I can’t see anyone start pulling with this amount of weight
