I am constantly reprimanded for squatting with a bounce, and then I see this speed! 😐 Opinions on using a bounce for +85% squats for a casual weightlifter?
JRutsays
A rebound is fine, but he really crashes and bounces hard and I would NOT advise any novice or intermediate lifter to free fall like that with such near-max loads. The way he grinds through that sticking point near the top makes me think a komakazi bounce is the only way he generates enough speed to get through the lift. It’s fun to watch, but I wouldn’t take any tips away from this.
Poetsays
Provided you can keep your line you’ll be fine.
Grosays
I have nothing against him but you Gregor put promote him very much, he lifts average weights and there are better lifters with less or no promotion.
Mattsays
Usually the best don’t post training vids like Milko does and this guy has a contagious enthusiasm for the sport. If there are no videos of the top competitors outside of competitions, how can they be promoted?
Everettsays
Meh, it gets boring just seeing the top lifters. If all you want to see is Klokov, just subscribe to his YT channel. As for other lifters with no promotion, if there are videos out there, YOU should submit them to ATG! Gregor is great about posting the stuff he receives, but he can’t keep track of the entire internet. Now you have me curious: who exactly are you referring to?
Ivan Bistasays
what others said: i absolutely love his enthusiasm for the sport and will never get bored watching him lift. And, if you have other lifters vids, just submit them, i am sure everyone here will gladly look at them. Meanwhile, i will happily look at everyone lifting from Klokov to Ilyin to Tokola… Cant get enough of this beautiful sport. Gregor, keep up the great work, i absolutely love the site and appreciate what you are doing!
Mesays
I beg to differ. I check ATG’s RSS feeds every day, and it’s been a while since the last time I saw Milko’s training videos or interview posted here. Much more Klokov’s stuff for example, which I don’t mind at all, since they’re all great.
Magnetosays
I’m surprised that you only review weightlifting videos based on the weight on the bar. If you put the weight aside (which isn’t world class but neither average) Milko has it all: dedication, intensity, charisma, technique and really sick speed. What do you need more to make a weightlifting video worth watching? Also the internet is not so full of new good weightlifting videos that other lifters get filtered out because of Milko. Like the others said: If you think that some watchable lifters are disregarded then make a submission yourself.
Chris Theoharissays
^^This right here, watching weightlifting is all about the art these masters bring to their craft. You don’t need to be setting world records or be a national or world champion to demonstrate excellent technique, speed and power. It also happens to be the case that Milko is great on camera, energetic, so fast. It’s fantastic. All of these reasons also add up to why I enjoy watching Chinese collegiate lifters regardless of their rankings in the country. It’s just a treat to watch folks who have been training for so many years in their sport. The responsibility is on other talented lifters to contact Gregor and promote themselves.

On what planet is 225kg for 5 “average”….or any of his other numbers for that matter. Take the stick out of your ass.
Luc Lapierresays
In what population are his numbers average?
Certainly not in the ATG readership!

Submit them then.

also Milko is drug free, unlike most top level lifters.
jamessays
you drug tested him?
Miika Antti-Roikosays
Our antidoping system in Finland is very good. Milko have been tested like almost 50 times in hes career, or maybe more. And hes like 20 now. So, if he would use drugs, that would be extremely difficult in Finland. I am also from Finland, i know how this things go there these days and i know he is drug free 🙂 I have been tested over 50 times too. And to other comments. Its great for weightlifting that we have All things gym website, and lifters upload more and more their liftingvideos on youtube. Its very good for sport. Because problem is that young lifters dont see their idols lifting very often. Just only in World’s once in a year. So these training videos makes it much easier to follow your favorite lifters and their preparation to big competitions. But, this is only my opinion 🙂 -Miika Antti-Roiko, Chemnitzer AC

I like Milko Tokola’s videos, and would rather see more rather than fewer. Also, Gregor does a superb job with this site (never mind that is his sit in any event). More power to him.

Having read the comments before I watched the video, I was expecting to see him basically free-falling into the hole… but that is not what I saw. He drops a bit fast, sure, but those are still controlled descents.
