Wow, a weightlifting competition that takes place in the same time zone as me! I don’t think I’ve experienced that before
Gregor says
Haha that’s aweswome 🙂 Times are acceptable here as well (8:30 / 12:00).
Wally Broccoli says
Gregor, did they eliminate the 94kg youth class?
Gregor says
For this competition they did. I don’t think it is a general thing though. At Youth Worlds there was still +94kg
guest says
There are no 50 & 94kg (m) / 44 & 69kg (w) classes at the YOG.
guest says
Meng Cheng with a 270 total @ 16 @ 56kg!
For the SHW, too bad Selimkhan Abubakarov isn’t lifting here. He did 379 earlier this year plus his insane total in KAZ just a few weeks ago. He could very likely push Martirosyan (or vice versa).
Also, does anyone know if Saeid Rezazadeh is Hossein’s son? There’s video of him at Asian Youth’s this year and he doesn’t really look like him.
Melzen says
no its not his son, he became father in 2004 and the name of his son is Abulfazl … but this was my first thought too!
guest says
Thanks!
guest says
Meng with a new snatch YWR @ 128kg! C&J to begin at 150, current YWR is 154 so’ll likely go for both.
Also Huihua’s 88kg from earlier matches the current YWR.
The CHN team really takes these competitions seriously…
guest says
Correction, never trust Wikipedia! It’s not a new snatch record since Meng already did 128 at the Asian Youth Championship in March this year.

The IWF site is a bit confusing since they list him with a wrong birthdate on the records page.
Gregor says
I was wondering about that. Maybe the Asian Youths did not count towards world records?
guest says
Nope, counted. Page 36:

The wrong birthdate on the IWF records page is a copy & paste error from the 50kg guy above him.
That said, going by their list it should still be two new YWRs: 155/283. They only mention one:

Gregor says
Okay , thanks for clearing that up
Ma Strength says
They do. Meng did 130/160 at the test event during the Ma Strength Weightlifting Camp, and he can front squat 220+ so he is good for more.

Has anyone else noticed the officials are being picky about covering up logos on clothing and equipment? All the normal Adidas singlets with the three stripes down the side have the stripes covered up. But not the Adidas logo on the breast for some reason, or shoes or socks or anything. All the lifters have tape over the back of their belts for some reason too, even though those logos are barely visible.
And as far as I can tell from the rule book, logos up to 500cm square on clothing is fine, and that’s a huge space. There is a rule that says “At Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games the relevant IOC rules prevail regarding manufacturer’s identification” so maybe that is different to the IWF rules and they have smaller allowances for logo space, which is why the big stripes aren’t allowed but the small breast logo is? Not sure why a belt logo wouldn’t be allowed though, especially as they’re usually engraved in the leather and not visible from a distance.
guest says
According to this (old) article the logo on OG attire can only be 20cm². Competitors of adidas won a suit in 2005 which stipulated this three stripe design is a logo (and not “motif”) as well. I guess thus there can’t be stripes longer than those on OG singlets.

However I also remember Lydia Valentin outrageously had to tape over her Hello Kitty belt in London! This little cat/logo isn’t near those dimensions.

Catching up on the second day: no huge lifts but better competition imo. Places 2-5 for the 62kg class within 6kg.
How can the 53kg winner from THA (who I can’t possibly spell) squat/clean like this, she has to be missing some bones…
Deja vu from Beijing: males lifting on Zhangkong, females on DHS bar/plates.
Afferbeck says
Yeah, I wonder why that is, with the different gear. It’s not like there’s a shortage of ZKC in China
Carl says
Dimitrov Andreev is a beast. He was awesone to watch. His injury didn’t seem to bother him much.
Borislav says
The name of the Bulgarian guy would best be written as Bozhidar Dimitrov, if you want to follow a First name/Last name format.
Gregor says
I just can’t win at names… 😀
guest says
Not to offend anyone, but is he ethnically Bulgarian or from a minority like the Turks?
Borislav says
Judging by his facial features, he is clearly a Roma. The Turkish minority in Bulgaria returned to their Turkish names after the fall of communism (look at Syuleymanoglu).
Wally Broccoli says
Khetag just matched his Russian PR in international competition. His 164 looked so strong. Also looks a lot more manly than 2 years ago.
guest says
I’d like for him to get a chance to scratch at Ilyin’s YWR snatch of 170, but he will turn 18 next year so this likely won’t happen.
guest says
Simon Martirosyan is a proper beast and imo there was nothing wrong with his attempt at 183. Don’t know what the judges saw or why the jury wasn’t consulted. Too bad. Hopefully he goes for 221 on the C&J.
