I think we just witnessed history…
What a crazy 77kg session over there in Rio.
Nijat Rahimov needed to make a 214kg Clean & Jerk World Record in order to take gold away from Lu xiaojun, who earlier set a 177kg Snatch World Record!
And that’s what he did …

Sadly we also saw a Andranik Karapetyan dislocate (?) his elbow. Let’s hope he recovers from that, and does so quickly.
logicalfellac says
Wow. He does it again!
rationalbro says
He didn’t stand still…
Ivan Bista says
Are you kidding me bro? It was a good lift! I almost lost my voice after what we witnessed in the arena!
swany says
but bottom line he didn’t stand still. Judges call a 1/2 cm elbow bend but not this. Still, glad it was allowed because it was very exciting.
jib1337 says
He stood still with feet in line. The lift was good.
Andreas Rheindorf says
He stood still. The fact that he was tipping forward is irrelevant because when the down signal came, both feet were still planted in line and the weight was still on straight arms. No problem.
Realist says
That’s not the standard for a good lift. Both feet were in line and his arms were straight, true, but in addition to tipping forward, his knees bending (awkwardly since his hips were not bending). Your entire body needs to be aligned and reasonably motionless. Also, tipping forward means that the weight must go down whether you want it to or not and the rules say that the weight must be dropped clearly of your own volition.
Manon says
Unbelievable. He didn’t stand still.
jib1337 says
Yes he did.
tdel says
Watch the loaders’ reactions in the video. PRICELESS.
Akshat Chaturvedi says
When will the full recordings be put to youtube?
Akshat Chaturvedi says
hello?
Jason says
I hope he gets popped and they change all the weight classes again.
Tobse says
He never dominated the bar! It wasn`t a valid attempt!
XtremeCreative says
In my eyes he never stood still with full control over the bar either but I have seen much worse attempts getting whitelighted and vice versa. But I like to refer to what Mark Huster and Rolf Ringguth said on tv once: A WR attempt should leave no room for doubt and the judges should pay extra attention to verify a solid lift because a record will stand in the history books for a long time.
Sriram says
From http://www.iwf.net/doc/technical.pdf ” The referees give the signal to lower the barbell as soon as the lifter becomes motionless in all parts of the body. “.
Can’t blame Nijat here. Referees are to blame. They seem to have given the signal even before he could stabilize.
Had they delayed it by a fraction of the second, I am sure the barbell would have been dropped.
Sriram says
Nijat was almost still for few moments before he started leaning forward. That must have done the trick and judges would have taken the split-second decision.

This guy lifted 190kg on a Clean and Jerk in competition last year, you’re telling me he managed a 24kg weight increase within a year for this? Very sus, might get busted later.
Denissssss says
Do you mean Chinese Grand Prix? I didn’t watch, but it looks like an easy trial before the WC, where he jerked 207
Эй ухнем ! says
Lift definitely not valid + his jaw muscle are a positive steroid test.
Steve says
Had I been a judge on the day its a red. As much as you or I might wish it to be legitimate it just wasn’t but official apparently. Nijat knows it the instant the bar hits the platform – his look says it all.
The judges cracked under pressure.
World records have been devalued by the incompetence of the IWF in changing weight classes to fix the drug problem with the resultant loss of credibility. Letting the odd “close enough ” slip through into the record book is a shame.
Behdad’s 245 was as strict as this.
