Topics:
- How he got started, from football, to Power Clean competitions where he met John Broz
- He has only been in the sport for 6 years now
- Trains 7 days a week training – Mon to Fri twice a day, Sat & Sun once
- [19:30] Training Volume: work up to a max, max double or triple, then go to the next exercise, if he does volume work then its in Pulls
- Plans to compete for Brazil in international competitions; BTW he already competed there last month and went: 170, 175x, 180 + 190, 200, 210x at 103.7kg bodyweight.
- His business – comeback supplements. He is definitely a hustler, made pretty good money after his hip surgery as a car salesman. Overall I really like his attitude and goal setting mindset for weightlifting.
- Tip for beginners: Don’t miss!

No talk about steroids and why he had to sell cars for 2 years? This guy is a joke, great leg strength but that’s about it. It’s a shame they give him the attention over someone like Ian Wilson (who is clean) and actually respects the Sport.
WSyd says
Why would they talk about steroids? His ban was for HGH(which is not a steroid) and is over now.
Everett says
Well, it’s obvious why they avoided the topic, but HGH is a banned substance, so that’s just semantics. The drug ban is the biggest thing that’s every happened to him weightlifting-wise. It actually made headlines in normal newspapers. So it’s a completely relevant issue.
Peter says
In any other sports, HGH-Pat would have been asked about this topic (are you clean now, how often have you been tested, etc). It’s negative publicity for weightlifting not to ask painful questions.
Adamkosna says
Totally dude. Fuck Lu, Dmitry, Vasily, Liao, Salimi, Ilya, and every lifter that gets posted on ATG. THEYRE CHEATERS AND LIARS with no respect for weightlifting!!! Let’s get real man, Mendes is not out to be an American hero, he’s out there to try and beat the BEST and become one of the greats. I don’t know how you can’t respect that. If you’re so offended by PEDs use you’ve chosen he wrong sport to follow. (Btw I think Ian Wilson is still an incredible lifter and athlete)
Jerker Karlsson says
The 200 kg clean and jerk looked really easy. No video on the 210 kg miss?
Jim says
Clarence Cummings Jr. is our best shot at international gold as long as he stays healthy.
Daveyboycorps says
Good luck to the guy but I think that his supplement company in particular is taking the piss
Daveyboycorps says
If you excuse the pun
