Update: Interview with David Rigert a couple of days before the final selection.
Cheif_88 says
is there a limit to how many classes they enter 2 athletes in?
Grambo says
I believe each team has a maximum number of athletes total they can send (by gender) based on qualifications, and 5 is the max? Not sure if there is an additional limit of 2 per class or not, but I think it’s the team’s choice. Kind of sucks Russia has to leave good lifters at home.
GregorATG says
I didn’t know it either. After some googling If found the official doc.

Men – 6 (Max 2 per event)
Women – 4 (Max 2 per event)

the 105 is going to be wild. looking forward to this solidifying
Asherwin1986 says
Anyone know why Chigeshev isn’t a lock to go already?
GregorATG says
See Kim’s comment above. As much as I want him to lift, that’s pretty much it.

Russia got 6 men and 4 women that is full team for the Olympic Games. Sow Russia can have one more male to the Olympic Games, my tip is that Russia is going with:
85kg: Aleksey Yufkin/Apti Aukhadov
94kg: Alexandr Ivanov and Andrey Dimanov
105kg: Khadzhimurat Akkayev and Dmitry Klokov
105+: Ruslan Albegov
Oleg Chen: will have difficulty against the Asian lifters in the 69kg and can as fast be nr 1 as four and five in 69kg at the Olympic Games. Allsow weak in the clean and jerk to take the gold in total agenst the Chinese lifters.
Rinat Kireev: have less total then Aleksey and Apti, allsow weak in the clean and jerk to take the total gold agenst the
Iranian,Polish and French lifters in the 85kg.
Evgeny Chigishev is starting to get old, born in 1979 and has bin out with injuries for the most of the time after 2008 Olympic. Cant see him geting back over 205 in the snatch and 240kg in clean and jerk to the Olympics. Best results after 2008 is 201kg in snatch and 237kg in clean and jerk. Gets problem with his thigh over 240kg in the clean and jerk.
GregorATG says
That’s sounds reasonable. I was thinking Chen too, but as you said chances are better in the 85s with Aukhadov and Aleksey.
Kim says
Some one have puted out two films of Aukhadov doing easy 215kg in the clean and jerk on YouTube. And 225kg i front squat + jerk. Sow he is looking strong before the final team.

Yep, videos here:

94kg and 105kg have great potential as competitions this year. Can’t see Chigishev making it either. Hopefully Tsarukaeva can redeem herself after the 08 debacle. Have difficulty to see them not taking Chen, though 85 is probably the more sensible choice.

105kg class: Anybody know what weight class Nurudinov is going to compete in? He weighed 102 at Asian Games. A lot to loose for him if competing in 94s. Can’t see him medaling at 105. But might be just as tough at 94. A lifter might hit 405 and not finish in top 5.
