Well,Ruslan wasn’t at his best this time. I was a bit suprised that he actually wanted to break Lovchev’s record after he failed the 211 in the snatch. It could be seen he was far from his old himself. It’s gonna be very hard to keep up with Lovchev. I really don’t envy him.
There is still some time left to Rio, and he did manage a 260 kg clean and jerk this summer ( https://allthingsgym.com/ruslan-albegov-260kg-clean-jerk/ ). He’s got a pretty solid record of performing well at international competittions as well (the 2012 Olympics a notable exception). Do you think Russia will have room for two supers at the Olympics, or will they send one to make room in the other classes?
Well, as it stands now – wich doesn’t really matter because so many things can happen until the big day – I’d say russians will probably send Chen 69 kg,Okulov,Aukhadov in the 85 kg,Bedzhanyan 105 kg,Lovchev +105 and decide that either Maligov or Albegov as a sixth guy. Depends on the form of course.One of them probably will be the reserve.Wild guess of course.
Albegov as an alternate? Ha. Guy’s done 210/255. He’s no alternate.
He might become one in this team…just six male lifters at the olympics don’t forget.
I would say the it’s highly unlikely that they would send Maligov instead of Albegov. Sending Albrgov and Lovchev basically guarantees Russia two medals, providing that they both make totals.
Yeah maybe you’re right. Although I’d gamble that Maligov’s gonna be much stronger next year. He’s still very young and I see a good deal of reseve in him plus the ability to progress. Albegov seems a bit more sensitive to me injury wise I mean. Anyway as we hungarians say: Until that lots of water will flow down on the Danube.Many things can happen.

Well, there is Maligov and Khugaev and they are both very young and capable of great progress.The Olympic Games are always a huge motivation.Wolrds and european champs are important but you can become immortal by winning an olympic medal so these guys will do everything to get there.I think they still have a chance. i believe that with a good level on rio he is going to win, lovchev is super strong, but i think that the problem here is that he was a lot better than the other in the stage, but in rio he will be pushed and i believe he is going to put at least 212 and 265-267
Whoever you take,Lovchev or Albegov if they are under pressure they will do marvellous things and won’t be intimidated by it. They are both great competitors and the view that any one of them would do worse because he’s pushed is not true. I personally see more in Lovchev and not because he lifted world records this time but because he is spot on with his technique. Albegov is strong but I haven’t seen him not to be forced to step under the weight to save his snatches for a long time.In the cnj he’s got a very nice and steady clean but his jerk is not sure at all. The olympic year is always tricky and it’s hard for everyone to make the team even if he’s a world record holder.You have stay injury free and so on. I hope they will all get there healthy and super strong.
to Ruslan’s credit…he is a great “pressure” lifter. If he’s healthy he can win. He seems to have been working with an injured body (still winning) through the past few Worlds. I definitely see 265 going soon

He pulled 265 high enough to get under it. Just Clarked it. He’ll be good for a 260+ in Rio with 7+ more months of healthy training.
I know it’s a long ways away but it looks like it will be Alexei, Lasha and Ruslan on that podium in Rio. Bahador looks way, way off and still adled with injuries and I don’t see Salimi coming back before. I was super impressed with the speed of Lasha at the worlds. Still very young as well- he should add kilos before Rio. It looks like he could get a massive weight in future on the snatch.
I seriously doubt the return of Behdad, even before his injury. He just never looked the same to me sadly. As for Bahador, i think he may be able to return. But not in time for Rio.
