Meanwhile in Iran …
Saeid Mohammadpour broke the Iranian 105 Snatch record by Hossein Tavakkoli. His 190kg Snatch from the Sydney 2000 Olympics stood for 14 years. [Video]
He lifted 191kg at 100.9kg bodyweight and also got a 225 C&J (via).
I expect this record to be broken multiple times in the near future as Saeid fully grows into the 105 category.
Understandably Behdad Salimi (195+230), Kianoush Rostami (170+205) did not go all out at this meet.
Here is Hossein Tavakkoli’s 190kg.

The IRIWF doesn’t list non-IWF results officially, so I’m slightly confused as to the importance of domestic results. We know for example of Salimi’s 217 snatch and that doesn’t seem to count (either).
PJ says
Yep, as you said this is not a new NR since this is not a IWF event. but it was an official league competition with international referees, dope test etc.
IRN91 says
He doesn’t train with the NT, he is not on the NT Training camp since
2012 OG so there was no plan to include him for either 2014 AG or WC.
PJ says
You should update yourself before giving wrong info, he trained with the national team after the Olympics before joining the rest of the group and boycotting the NT and even after changing the coach he was with the national team at the start of the year but left the camp early this year because of an “injury”. which
personally I still can’t believe.

I wonder why doesn’t he compete as a light 105 at worlds
David Oliveira says
I was wondering the same …191 would’ve got him gold in the snatch last year. And in my opinion, the Iranians don’t have any better option than him for this weight class at the moment.

And seeing how he’s hit the two 230 c&j’s on video recently and this snatch, I think he’d be in contention for the all around gold.
PJ says
That’s still a mystery. maybe they just didn’t register his name in first place and now can’t change it ?! or maybe he has problem with the new coach ?! he just claims his main target is next year World Championship without mentioning why he is not interested this year ?!

Proud of the gains Iranians always make in weightlifting!
