We just posted a new video to our patreon: Block Snatching with Ruslan Nurudinov!
This is the first session video we filmed “after” (or rather still mid) pandemic! On our last day at junior worlds, Nat and I went to visit the Uzbek weightlifting team in their training center north of Tashkent.
This is a rare chance to watch an Olympic Champion—and current World Record holder!—in their day-to-day training.
As great as it is to watch training hall footage it is just as valuable to see how top athletes go about the daily grind of contest preparation.
But this video is more than just training—it also features some commentary by Ruslan himself! Ruslan talks about:
- his warmup and why he does certain movements
- how his coach works with him to write programming
- Why he does an unusual variant of Good Mornings
- what technical issues he’s currently trying to address
- And more!

This video shows just one aspect of the training camp. In the coming weeks we’ll post more footage from this camp, including highlights of the team’s warmups and a session with Adkhamjon Ergashev (Mr. NTL) and more big lifts!
If you have questions about the training camp leave them in the comments below and I’ll do my best to answer them. In the meantime, check out the video and enjoy!

I BEG IWF to have a World Cup or Championship sometime in November. Looking at 2020 Olympic entrance make me sad. It will be worse in 2024 if weightlifting is in the Olympics.
