Update: Notes from reader Anthony Chen on ATG’s Facebook page.
The National Team’s training isn’t as urgent/stressful as we thought…
Only half the national gymnasium lights are on due to the differences in weight classes training and training schedules, which only leaves a few athletes.
Coach Yu Jie’s elites are present as Liao Hui front squats 200kg with ease. Tian Tao’s 220kg doesn’t feel heavy to him. Lu Xiaojun clean and jerks 200kg and jokes with a regional coach afterwards.
Long Qinquan focuses on his technique while Chen Lijun competes in the C&J (lifting 135) with new blood Meng Cheng (attempting 130).
Coach Zhang Guozheng demonstrates snatch technique and after 9 years of retirement manages to snatch 100kg with ease at 43 years old.
They are trying to create a relaxed atmosphere before competition so that the athletes do not over stress themselves.
Victor says
Meng Cheng has suddenly made a huge amount of progress and Long Qingquan is seeing him as a fierce rival. He got into a push-press competition with Chen Lijun and lost.
Women’s lifter Chen Guiming is so stupid (joking), Zhang Guozheng had to get back into lifting to show her how it’s done. At 43, retired for 9 years, he snatched 100kg.
Gregor Winter says
Haha thanks 🙂
Adnan Siddiqui says
Haha he’s training with the big guys now! Meng could probably be a reasonable match in both the 56kg and 62kg class to replace Long or Chen if ever needed. And he’s only 19!
Victor says
Meng Cheng might only be 19 but he hasn’t improved in 3 years since he did 128+155 as a youth. We’ll see what they mean when they say he’s improved rapidly as of late but honestly my hopes aren’t too high. Who knows; maybe he’ll show a Tian Tao growth curve…
Mike says
“Cheng Lijun 138kg Push Press had no hesitation, and Meng Cheng’s 130kg was not successful, but a 6kg less in body weight made it hardly embarrassing at all.”
