I think he’d be more satisfied with a harder clean and and much better jerk … 🙂

I think China had him go way too hard in the training hall, especially in the squat. Looked like he had nothing left by the time he got to the platform.
Leviathar says
As far as i heard he injured his hip after his 178 snatch
Realist says
It was during the last warm up before his opening clean and jerk that he suddenly felt an abnormal tightness in his back.
Luc Lapierre says
Opening at 211 didn’t seem to be the best move in hindsight. He had the lead after the snatch…
Realist says
Well, whether 211 was good depends on the condition of the lifter. In good condition, Tian Tao could open with 211 just fine. Remember, 178+211=389, which would not be good enough to take gold from Okulov. He needed 217 for a WR, so 211, then 217 sounds fair. It’s just that no one could have predicted that he would tweak his back on his final warm up.
Gregor says
There was plenty of time between this training session and the day he competed.

I like that little exercise they’re doing with the rubber tubing at the end there for quads.
He’s just chillin’ like nothing’s going on. Nothing to see here!
The Chinese have very interesting training methods.
