Hi, I run ATG.
Follow me on instagram @gregorwinter (and ATG @atginsta).
Jerker Karlsson says
He’s got 220 kg coming. Does anyone know if he’ll be lifting in Houston, and what he snatched at the test event?
Anton Mårtensson says
He has made it in training, i think we will see the world record fall in Houston or Rio.
Roberto says
This kid has no problem to put 220 kg in the chest, it’s just amazing.
deadlift4 life says
Pretty much it’s only matter of jerking it now, because his cleans are just stupendous strong

Important points:
1. Liao Hui is in the military; he had a mission earlier that day so he could not compete but arrived later to watch.
2.They didn’t have to make weight.
3. Liu Hao: 180 snatch
4. Chen Lijun: 145 + 177, says he hopes to do 330 in Houston to give Kim Unguk some competition (though I don’t see how since he only did 322 at home without losing weight. However, it is worthy to note that although it only shows him getting 145 and 177, those may not be his final scores since the reporter said something about Chen Lijun surpassing the WR at this event. The way it was said, it is uncertain whether he did or simply carried a disposition to do so later.)
5. Lu Xiaojun (175 snatch) and Long Qingquan (165 C&J) did not perform well as they went 2/6 (no bomb outs). Yujie said he will spend the last 2 months before Houston getting them to lift more consistently.
tdel says
If Lu went 1/3 in the snatch but managed to hit 175, that implies that he either opened with that weight, or otherwise opened with ~170, missed, and then went up to 175 anyway (given that in the video we see him miss then make 175). I don’t see him needing to open that aggressively in Houston in order to still clean up shop. We shall see…
Victor says
Yeah, Long also missed 160 and went on to make 165. Remember they didn’t have to make weight for this comp.
tdel says
I think they just try and max out at these test comps rather than try and do a logical progression like they’d normally do in a real competition. Remember last year when Liao Hui came out and ‘opened’ with 200 kg, then stopped?

1. Tian Tao’s weibo reads: 腰受伤3个星期没有训练,刚刚好点,昨天又复发了 🙁
2. I like how CCTV says Lu will go to worlds whereas the CWA site says Su will. I guess we’ll have a better clue after the China GP. Perhaps both? I’d imagine they rather need both Long and Wu at 56.
Victor says
You asking me to translate or you know what it means? Tian Tao sustained a lower back injury and did not train for 3 week. He said that the injury flared up again at the test of strength. At the rate that Tian Tao is progressing, basically, injury is the greatest threat to his gold in Rio. But I’m also amazed that with an injured back and 3 weeks without training (strictly speaking, it says no training for 3 weeks but I find it hard to believe he didn’t do some light stuff), he cleaned 220 with ease and came very close to jerking it.
At this point, I don’t think Liao Hui even wants to go to Houston. Sure, he’s military and should attend their stuff but I think we all know he’s got no real missions other than getting medals LOL They’re not gonna send him to war. He probably took that as an excuse to not compete. He’s saving it all for Rio and looking at his resume, it doesn’t seem that another World’s would be special to him. Better let the lil’ fellas snag this one up.
wlift84 says
The latter hence my :(, but of course not on a native level since I’m a scrub, so thanks.
Victor says
LOL oh, I thought the 🙁 was something you copied from Tian Tao’s post haha. Well, he’s young and his recovery ability is still really good. Anyway, I’d be more worried if Lu Xiaojun was injured. On a different topic, I gather that Long went 130+165=295 and Wu snatched 135. Still a lot of numbers missing like Tian Tao’s snatch, Lu Xiaojun’s and Wu Jingbiao’s C&J, Su Ying’s, Lu Haojie’s, Shi Zhiyong’s performances, etc… Hope they come to light soon.
wlift84 says
Wu slightly pressed out 138, don’t think IWF would let that pass.
Anyway, I looked at the line-up again (picture) and I don’t think Shi and Su were present.
Unless there was a second group the guys lifting were: Long Qingquan, Wu Jingbiao, Meng Cheng, Long Decheng, Chen Lijun, Huang Minhao, Lu Xiaojun, Lu Haojie, Tian Tao, Liu Hao, Yang Zhe, Wu Changsheng.
Phil says
You are right.
Rumour is Su is going to be at the Asian champs.
Victor says
Is there a video of Wu’s 138? In that case, I’d like to know what Yang Zhe and Wu Changsheng did.
Victor says
Nevermind, I saw it. 138 didn’t look bad to me. Liao’s 166 looked closer to pushing it in my opinion. Long’s 135 miss is really a pity. He definitely pulled high enough; he just drifted back with it…
Phil says
Thanks for the translations, much appreciated.

Any news on Zhong? He’s the reigning WWC (via DQ of godelli) and I thought he had more in him. Fantastic technician with very textbook technique. It’s kind of sad how China has so many 77s who could upset Lu on a given day but won’t get the international experience.
wlift84 says
He was 5th in the Nationals with a 355 total. If he lifts at all internationally then likely only in the China GP later this month.
Victor says
I prefer Su or Lu Haojie; they are young and can develop further. Zhong is just older and less strong; his clean and jerk strength is too low; his snatch was nearly 87% of his C&J. I don’t think the coaches were at all pleased with the manner in which Zhong won the 2014 title and he probably won’t get another chance unless it’s a very small competition (non-Olympic, Asian Games, WWC) or Lu Xiaojun, Su Ying and Lu Haojie all cannot lift.
DW says
Incredible, unheard of, clean power.
