Via olympic.org comes this news:
“Reduction of one men’s weight category”
Which they don’t say yet.
“Reduction of 64 athletes and reach gender balance”.
This PDF says:
“Seven weight categories to be confirmed” for men.
For women it lists the old ones, i.e. before the 90 and 90+ were introduced.
Thanks to everybody who sent this in!
Update: Thomas Bach (IOC president) warned weightlifting to “address the massive doping problem this sport is facing” or risk being dropped from the 2024 Olympics. (via)
He gave the IWF until december to come up with a “satisfactory report”.

Fun suggestion:
Why? To add lifters numbers in the games and make it more female friendly!
Men and women double: Winning by adding total of male and female lifters. I suggest this event for men & women 56kg and 90 kg. Max 8 teams allowed. This way we can still have 6 individual male events (62, 69, 77, 84, 105, 105+) and five ladies ( 50, 62, 69, 77, 90+) plus two combined 56 and 90. Notice no individual 56 or 90s kg for either men/women.
This can be done for 56 and 84 kg in one Olympic and then 62 and 90 for another Olympic (rotate).
First all weight categories must become the same IMO.
Each man or women gets two snatches and two C&Js. Add two totals. Add totals even if one athlete bums in either snatch or CJ.

Please note IOC added Men 800m and Women 1500m swimming which is a waste of time. This is just so certain athletes score 4-6 medals. Also addition of mixed 4x400m running without removing men or women 4x400m.

2020 Tokyo Reduction of one men’s weight category
People like to watch big-heavy athletes to lift heavy weights (wrong IMO).
Remove men 56 and 62 kg categories and replace by 60 kg. This way we may get a few bantamweight and featherweights to go head to head and have exciting competition.
