Meanwhile in Japan …
Toshiki Yamamoto (85kg) squats 300kg.
Follow him on Instagram @toshikis160j200.
Oh, and here is a 240kg Front Squat he did in the 2015 Asian Championships training hall.
Not a PR as he has done at least 250kg in training

Best of Olympic Weightlifting
Seems like his jerk is the limiting factor in his c&j. Based on his squat and clean numbers and how high he tends to catch his cleans, he’s capable of getting a lot of weight onto his shoulders
I just realized 300kg is 15kg over the 83kg ipf world record jesus
yeah and Liao Hui front squatted the -74kg record (260kg) recently as well… Nuts!
Insane. It baffles me though that a B-class weightlifter can crush powerlifting squat world records for fun though. Referring to Yamamoto of course. I don’t know how old he is however, so I’m definitely not discounting the possibility that he’ll be A-class in the future
Yeah, I think early 20’s. His jerk is the weak link in the CJ, clean is like Tian’s.
He’s 25, born 1991, so if he’s gonna do well, he’d better pull himself together quickly. 300kg is pretty close to Tian Tao’s 302, except Tian Tao didn’t grind his. The jerk limit is way different on these 2; it seems that Yamamoto’s jerk is, as usual with anyone, limited by his explosive power, as he’s a split jerker. Tian Tao’s jerk has no such limits; every time, he can get the weight high enough, but it’s just the consistency isn’t there due to the difficulty of the squat jerk. And it seems with Tian Tao that there is some hesitation in him regarding whether to use a power jerk (risk failure from not sending it high enough) or a full squat jerk (risk failing from balance/technique) when he’s on heavier weights.
I think he’ll be OK. Hiromi Miyake is 30 and still gets bronze medals at Worlds.
Powerlifting is insane with the different federations. Powerlifting watch keeps track of the world records across feds pretty well. The record is 744 w/o wraps @ 181.
