Meanwhile in Russia …
Vasiliy Polovnikov Squats 295kg x5. His heaviest Squat single so far on ATG was 310kg.
With 295×5 ATG’s Rep Max Calculator (which is always right and tells nothing but the truth!!1!) predicts a 1RM of about 330-340.
More Highlights from Vasiliy:
Update 06.10.2014: 305kg x3

Vasily looks like a very strong short and wide type of guy. I wonder why he is so good with snatches and bad (relatively, obv) in clean and jerks. I always thought CJ is a more strength-demanding exercise.

Technical issues in the jerk. No problems while pulling or standing up. Even his (push-)pressing strength is through the roof (210kg?).

Actually he is very very strong in the clean and jerk and is generally weaker in the snatch. He set the Russian record in the clean and jerk in the 2009 nationals in the 94kg class with a mediocre snatch (albeit world class) to back it up. He managed to defeat Akkaev in that nationals despite Akkaev posting a 186 Russian record snatch. His clean and jerk seems lacking now because first of all he had a series of horrible back injuries and a few hernias since coming out of his ban, he even said in the ATG interview that it had messed up his pull to where he cant stay over the bar as long as he wants. In the videos of his earlier 200-230 he looked much more stable overhead and kept the bar over his hips better, as well as him being deeper in the catch. He is still recovering and getting better over time, but this coupled with his “legendary flexibility” (http://instagram.com/p/oGY3JwF-Wr/), vid related puts a little damper on his clean and jerk for now. Also he has been away teaching seminars for most of the year and didn’t have a strict training regimen. His form isn’t as crisp as it could be leading to his technical error on the 230 during russian nationals.
As his form and back strength come back along with his consistent training cycle now with him being paid to train with the Russian team again, I expect some very big numbers from Vasily in the future. Watch for him at the worlds selection mock meet.

Great info. Hope he recovers.

Also, although it seems not worth mentioning, he has changed his shoes quite a few times in the past year or so. With a sport with as much emphasis on how you feel when you have proper form as a basis for the lifts, something as simple as changing your shoes could be a huge deal when lifting. Moving heel sizes like he did could contribute to his slightly wonky form now having to get used to the normal heel after using the soft crossfit low heel.

Haha, even Julia is impressed.
