      Looks like its his dad.
In other video he schools him in a harsh manner. Kid jerks 200kg and coach (dad?) tells him:
-Easy, we have 3 repetitions on that weight today.
      -3!? You said only two!
-Okay, since you are arguing we are doing 4.

Then when kid misses the 3rd attempt, the coach says rather rudely:
-Are you going to train today or not!? You sleep the whole day! Go again from the beginning.

It looks like little Yarkin does not enjoy this training that much.

His coach reminds me of my father so much lol.

I also noticed that, and your translations are summarize the situation clearly. It’s obvilious that his father treats him very cruelly.

It isn’t cruel. He is strict, yeah. But parents know better then teens what is good for them. And such training will build a proper character for this boy and maybe earn him international titles in weightlifting.

or he could loose motivation, and never ever appear again…

Edit: Just saw, the aforesaid video. If you, wat, believe that being emotionally cruel towards people to evoke performance, you probably do not know the difference between fear or dependence an real intrinsic motivation.

He is not being emotionally cruel to evoke performance. He is learning the kid to go past his limits. He is learning the kid to do what is needed to be done. If the plan says “3 reps”, the kid should do 3 reps, and not bargain for 1 fewer rep. He probably knows bargaining is useless, why would he waste his breath? Complaining does not suit a man.

A person will always go easy on himself, especially kid, that’s what the coaches are for. Coaches assess the athlete’s abilities in an unbiased way, and make the athlete perform what is necessary. You don’t get world champions any other way.

You have to be harsh or even cruel if you want the boy to grow strong.
The kind of stimulus, or willpower that makes a man perform the impossible rep and not to give up, has to be shown, or projected from the outside before the man learns to do it himself. And some kids are made in a way that they understand only shouts and harsh words.

I for sure was that kind of kid, lazy and unwilling to do a thing. My parents were just as, or even more, cruel with me. I remember doing splits (3 types) for 5 cycles, 1.5 minutes each split. When I bent a knee before the time was out, or got up from the split a second earlier, I had to do ALL THE CYCLE from the beginning. I didn’t like my parents much at the time. But I am really grateful now. Do you think strict parents LIKE to make their child suffer? I think my parents hated this “exerciser and punishment” as much as I did. But it helped me in life immensely later.

This kind of standpoint is in fact detrimental to peoples psyche, and in no way a preferable way to raise children. Those who value obedience and conformity more than anything have my true compassion.

By stating your childhood had been characterized by such practice of conditioning by reward and punishment, it´s pretty much obvious why you are justifying these training methods.

                Have a good Day!

Anyone know where you can get the Russia t shirt that he’s got,on in the jerk vids, the black one with red writing. Couldn’t mind it in different colours either

Here you can buy the Team Russia clothes. I think they only deliver to Russia though. I went to a physical store and they were out of many sizes, including this red and black T-shirt (they had the white one at least). So I would recommend to buy online if you can.

My favorite video of him is the box jump to neck high from a deep squat he posted on VK some years ago. Unfortunately, his account has been blocked.

Gregor, do you know if this video is still floating around somewhere? Or do you see a way to contact Yarkin and ask him to reupload it? This mindblowing video can’t be lost 🙁

I’m pretty sure Vasily Alexeev was a self coached lifter , self motivated .. And he did alright…80 world records was it? First 500 pound clean and jerk? This kids gonna burn out if his dad keeps pushing like that.. A lifter like yarkin will improve regardless of the nature of his coach

I think Rudolf Plukfelder was Alexeev’s coach for a while. And Rudolf was known for making his lifters do crazy amounts of work in the gym.
