The IOC reexamined doping tests from Athens 2004.
Update: Washington Post picked up on it.
Update 2: Interview with Oleg.
Update 3: IOC makes it official.
They have an 8 year deadline to do so after the Olympics.
What they found were 2 positives from Russia and one from each Ukraine and Belarus.
Among them is one weightlifter, 77kg world record holder (210kg) Oleg Perepetchenov who won bronze in Athens.
I don’t know what that means for his other titles, but I assume his bronze medal is gone.
Here is his insanely fast 220kg Clean & Jerk @ 85kg which they can’t take away.
Next up, as I reported here there were rumors that Ivan Stoitsov is going back to Bulgaria. These then turned out to be false… or so I thought.
Now Polzka Sztanga reports that Boyanka Kostova (5th in London 58kg), Ivan’s girlfriend, does not want to live in Azerbaijan while her future husband is in Bulgaria (so he is training there?). They also say that Ivan did not want to cooperate with Azerbaijan’s coach Zlatan Vanev.
When it comes to the whole county switching thing, I will believe nothing until I see them on the platform. Too much back and forth.
And as if there were not enough weightlifting events next weekend the Russians will hold their Russian Cup on 27.11 – 02.12.
Not expecting Klokov (remember he said “I want to rest until January, and then begin training for the Russian Championships that will take place in the summer”) or Akkaev to show up there.

Chat is always on (even now). I think we are going to watch the event that has a live stream (none confirmed so far).

Aw man, Pere etc. is one of my favourites. So much drama and politics in weightlifting. At least it won’t get the ridiculous media coverage cycling has had lately. Since his bronze medal is now gone, will the guy who came 4th now get it?
kim says
The clean and Jerk was in 77KG from 2010 with a total of 175 +220 to get 495.40 points.
