Weightlifting News – Russian Steroid Smugglers, Dolega Hip Surgery

Another round of weightlifting news that piled up last week.

Russia

In the city of Perm, Russia a Masters of Sports in Weightlifting has been caught smuggling steroids. Names have not yet been released.

One of them was caught with 30 grams, the other with 2kg of potent substances. One of the detainees – a master of sports of international weightlifting, the other had previously been convicted of smuggling powerful substances.

With that amount of substances they face up to 12 years of prison.

Poland

In an Interview Marcin Dolega said that the reason for not competing at the 2013 Europeans was a hip injury.

He damaged cartilage and already underwent surgery on it.

It is not clear, but he might start training for the worlds mid May. He repeatedly said that if he can’t total 400kg he will end his career. He sees the 400kg+ total as a benchmark to be competitive on the international stage.

Belarus

4 female weightlifters from the 2012 European Junior championships tested positive.

3 of them medalists:

Pachabut and Dryla tested positive for one of the weightlifter’s favorite – stanozolol (the stuff that also brought down Hysen), while Sechka tested positive for Drostanolone (trade name Masteron).

All of them got a 2 year ban.

    ARM did get 4 athletes taken at the junior and U-23 European, BLR nr3 in snatch 77kg (24.11.2012) and ROU got 1 athlete silver at the U-23 94kg (15.11.2012) the tests was not ready before the European. And dont know what IWF is going to do with the 5 lifters from TUR at the Same European + 11 more athletes from TUR that got tested after the lifters got home. TUR is in some big problems after the olympics and junior/U-23 European with a total of 18 athletes tested positive.

    Damn 2kg of drugs is quite a lot if thats powder. Probably supplying the entire team for a good time not to mention local weightlifters in russia. Poor russia I thought putin liked the strength spots yet he seems to be going after them hard right now.
