Kelly Starrett takes another look at the Front Rack Position for Front Squats.
In this videos he and Diane Fu advocate gripping the bar wider. This added external rotation of the shoulders puts you in a more stable position and should help with keeping your elbows up.
Alex Gorham says
Also better for jerking obviously.
Ola says
Bonus points: In a clean, this grip width allows you to turn knees
outward more off the floor, getting them out of the way better without
burshing the arms. The negative is that you’ll need the pull to go ever
so slightly higher, with can make or break max attempts, and/or hit you in the dick.
Jon W says
I never consciously realized there were people who DIDN’T do this.
